Wine Caps
    #14394372 - 05/03/11 01:02 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I am fairly certain these are wine caps. I just wanted to make sure I was right. They were growing in mulch on campus. These are common place edibles, so I think they can be IDed with just photos, but if more descriptive info is needed I will happily provide it. Thanks.

So is that tongue lick a "yum" or a "you are crazy those aren't wine caps!"?

:billymaythumbup: Wine caps, they be. If they weren't you would get an explicit statement. Anything funky like a thumbs up or graemlin/smilie is often a confirmation

Anyone who's eaten these, what are they like?  I've considered getting a kit from Stamets or somebody.  They seem like a nice grow.

Nice firm flesh. Pretty plain tasting IMO. They're OK.

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.

They reminded me of asparagus. Both texture and taste. We cooked them with nutmeg, cardamom, canola oil, salt, and mint. :crazy2:

i love them my self and are my families favorite. i like how firm they are and the taste is kinda like steak in a way. take those stem butts and get some fresh wood chips and put em all together in a bucket and keep adding chips. this species is nuts!!! it will rip through your yard like no other!

Symon, that sounds awesome! The patch these came from is going nuts right now, so I am going to do just that. Good tip.
