DO IT! Maybe it's a new, undiscovered Psilocybe species.... ok... maybe not but, you know what I'm getting at!

If they are cyans would they be safe to eat if they developed off of treated wood?

I wouldn't mind eating them, but nothing I would chow down on numerous times. It's kinda like eating fish that have a bit of mercury in them. A little bit each month is ok, but you could get sick from eating way too much. Plus, everything else in this world is full of nasty ass chemicals Congrats man They look like cyans to me as well. Comparison pic.
-------------------- Having lived through an existence close to nature, one accepts the small and simple things as most important in life. Sun, wind, rain and snow. The sounds birds make, smells of fresh wild flowers. Love of all kinds, from friends and family, thy self and our neighbors. Beautiful sunrises to the darkest clouds dancing above in the sky. To forgive, learn, share and express. This is the only thing a man such as myself can ask for. What comes as the result is nothing short of the core of human existence, to truly live free in body and mind.

Psilocybes are know to remove toxic chemicals from the enviroment but i think it is uncertain wether the mushrooms themselves contain the chemicals. i remember reading the oysters in stamets oil experiments were tested to be safe to eat. but who knows .

It would be epic if those are cyans. But it's way too early to tell - they might as well be a galerina species. I considered psathyrella as well, but I think most (all?) psathyrella have orange/red mycelium. Anyway, don't celebrate just yet.

I knew they were gonna be cyanescens. Those pins just screamed cyans. Awesome work, and it seems you will have a nice bounty. use that mycelium to grow more spawn in the winter and you will be able to have a huge patch next year. Awesome finds man (active fungi do choose to follow people and want to be found and known. Wiscokid is a perfect example of this)

He actually said that he was growing some cyan's though I really don't think its that unbelievable i mean spores can travel afar guys! from the grow room to his backyard probably isnt that far, especially if he used spores or lc instead of a syringe. Still it IS very awesome man!!! Congrats

well he found a piece of wood with what could have been ANY , and i cant stress this enough, ANY wood loving mushroom with white mycelium . he then fruited the damb thing in a container, which isnt the easiest thing to do, and they ARE cyans! its mind blowing to me.

Edit: Jeez, it's pretty early for them to be growing eh? What are the temperatures and rainfall patterns there? Are you watering them yourself? Are you adjusting things like temperature, humidity, etc??

dood. if you did something as little as went picking cyans and came home, you could have easily spread the spore mass that caused that myc.
that is a definate.

that is a definate. Agreed. But if that was the case then my beds and my other tray would also be fruiting? And also the myc looks totally diff. My beds were started from stem butts that i picked over 50 miles away from my home. The rhizos on this and my beds are totally different looking. Also my other tray is actually right next to this on in the same place so if they were identical strains then surely both my trays would be fruiting? It does seem a little early for them to fruit but we had a cold spell recently so i guess that caused them to fruit. This tray has had hardly any attention or care as i didnt realise it was cyan myc.

Even if you came from 1000 miles away, youd still be loaded with spore mass from handling the mushrooms to collect the stem butts.

Ok im not try to be an ass here but i think you are missing my point. If i had brought spores with me when picking then my beds and trays and the tray in this post would all be indectical so in theory they would all be fruiting right now. And all my trays are in the same place but only this one is fruiting. So for me that is evident they are not from the same strain

Could this be a genetic trait that these Ps. cyanescens are fruiting so early, or could the fact that the wood was treated or rival bacteria/fungi cause the fruits to appear early in a effort to achieve a complete life cycle?

Awesome work man. Seems like they were meant to find you at this spot. Keep watering a bunch because they look dried out in your pic. To a great find.

Yea, it looks like a few pins are aborts. I wouldn't cut any till the cap becomes flat and they start dropping spores. It takes a while for them to rot beyond the point of being ok to eat. to you man. The soil looks a bit dry to me. How often do you water the tub?

I would be keeping them pretty moist. I wouldn't saturate them or anything - but I would have a spray bottle and spritz them every few hours lightly. Keep up the awesome work!

I almost tend to over water my cyan patches. When it is fairly dry and hot out I water every day, sometimes twice. couldn't hurt to give them so water. Maybe poke a hole in a corner of your tub and slant it that way so extra water has somewhere to drain and doesn't just pool at the bottom. Looking good man, and I hope to see them grow nice and big for ya

Really how are they fruiting??? Are you keeping them inside or something?
Often times, when cultivated in a indoor/tupperware situation they don't require the temperature drop, to the same extent at least. They can fruit at 65-70 f on occasion. I don't know why they do this, but ive seen it in other threads posted here throughout the years
They do look a little dry.

Wow this is an awesome thread! Just read the whole thing! So MDMA how did you plant the myc? Did you just plop the plank of wood in the tub or did you scrape the myc in their? And what soil did you use? Hands down to you so far bro!

Looking DAMN NICE there m-d-m-a Rip off some leaves of nearby trees - and throw some in for "cover" and slight "humidity dome" attributes then use a spray bottle or a hose on the mist setting - give em a gooooood watering and let the cover of leaves keep them pins HAPPY

Damn nice Mdma! such a simple and small approach .. did u break them up/scrape or just put in a colonised piece of wood to begin with?
hope your other beds fruit too! dn't be afraid to go along with a bucket or bottle of water (make sure its rain water tho) and water ur beds always helps especially at the beginning of autumn!
and yeah they defo looked dry! misting is the way forward .. from what ive read these are tough buggers too can survive our new super chilled winters
wish the mushroom fairy brought them to my local area

Thanks peeps just had another look there is a nice cluster of about 10 or more pins coming in the middle! and all i did was snap a piece of that plank big enough to fit the tub chucked about 4 handfuls of beech chip(not even soaked) in there and added a layer of standard compost i found in my shed and gave it a good watering then left it alone.Quote:

hey mdma they never recommend sealing it ... maybe gently covering so it can still breath a little.. still air is good with a little exchange
and ofc keep it moist! but don't drown

Seriously give those clusters a covering of picked and dead leaves it won't be as easy to look and spot the growth - but your clusters of pins will EXPLODE under the humidity dome cover it will help keep in moisture too - and you will end up seeing TONS of HUGE NICE MATURE caps emerge from the topping of leaves
Looking MIGHTY MIGHTY nice there man Thanks for the update too - hope we get more to come yet
Happy Fall Woodlover season

Thanks man just cut that nasty abort out. And i cut down those big ass fuckers! Didnt want em rotting on me. I have taken a look at the spot but there is nothing there. All the wood debris were removed when i cleaned my garden. Shame cus i chucked out a good 20 litre os cyan myc! Not to worry tho i will be expanding and spreading! Quote:

Either that species is not Psilocybe cyanescens, or it is a mutated Cyan strain, adapted to fruit at higher temperatures.
Anyway, this is a very valuable find. Save it and spread it!

I disagree. Its usual cyans IMO. I think i said this earlier in the thread, but when cultivated in tubs Cyans don't require the temperature drop like they do in a natural outdoors setting. Iv'e seen it happen a few times here over the years.

have you ever seen the stamets lecture given at the 1999 psychoactivity conference??
here.
i think it might make you realize how probable this actually is.

Geez it's been fun following the progress of your early cyan tub. If you don't get a second flush are you gonna feed and store the tub for next season or spread it?

m-d-m-a your new tub is luvly They look soooo healthy and happy.
D'you keep a lid on them whilst colonizing, d'you case them before fruiting?

Oh yes i will deffo be expanding the crazy myc tub. And the new tub is looking rather tasty tbh they are really chunky n thick. They are growing real slow tho. And yes those tubs got a fair few holes in and the lids on whilst colonising. I put a real thin layer of soil on them when the myc reaches the top. I may knock one out next fall and try fruiting it like that. To be quite honest i am a novice at cyan growing this is my first year of fruits that ive grown myself. Not bad. I am armed with more knowledgevthis year so my fruits should be much larger next fall.

Awesome job man You'll have some huge, epic patches in no time The new tub looks a lot like the first cyans I ever found. Short and chubby, but very dense. to you man!!

well if they stop fruiting m8 .. its a long shot but .... give them a good watering can .. set ur fridge to 4-5C and shock them into another fruit by leaving them in over night for 1 night and then stick back outside

A better bet to prolong fruiting, may be to protect it from the freezing conditions that are coming.
If you have an area indoors where your tub could be kept on those days/nights when the temperature is forecast to dip below ~ what it is now, it may continue flushing until the substrate is spent.
Of course, if you can maintain these conditions, you could try 'feeding' the myc by adding freshly hydrated/pasteurized wood chips to it. I'd love to see pictures of your tub flushing all the way through to spring.
Last year, for example. I kept a much smaller container in my unheated spare bedroom for two-three months. I did eventually have to spawn it to an outside bed when some trich started to appear (my fault ) on some of the wood, but, while it lasted i treated it like a pet, almost like a venus fly trap, with regular watering and feeding. It was beautiful to watch as the fresh wood chips i placed on top were gradually taken over by the rhizo's.

unless the wood was treated with heavy metals they are safe to eat. mycelium does not absorb toxins into the fruiting bodies. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14941303#14941303
