Morels are being stubborn
    #14393723 - 05/03/11 10:19 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

The morels are taking forever to fruit in any numbers this year, but we still had fun on our last outing.

I believe the cup fungus are Caloscypha fulgens.  I love the one that looks like a perfect little pitcher.

We also found what might be a Gyromitra.  I'm confused because I've never seen them this color in my area.  Maybe its Helvella?  I didn't feel like picking them, so I don't know if the margin is attached to the stipe or not.

I don't think that the orange peel fungus (Aleuria aurantia) stains blue like the one's I found.  Not sure of my id, though.

He didn't find morels. I believe he has Helvella lacunosa pictured in the third pic. I am pretty sure the cup fungus is in fact Caloscypha fulgens.

My bad, I thought they were just morel that hadn't quite broken the surface of the ground yet. I'm still learning my mushrooms . Has anyone in Oregon had good luck finding morel this season? I have seen a few in town and I have seen a couple of people post pictures of city morels. Is it still to soon and to cold to find them in the mountains?

Yeah, I don't know if they are popping up in the natural locations yet - I suppose they may be starting now. But I haven't personally found any naturals yet - only landscaping morels (which I am PERFECTLY fine with  ) But yeah, the Morels are out in the Cities for sure..

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I've found very few morels so far this season, mostly at around 2300 ft.  The time of year is right, but the cold weather seems to be hanging on longer the last two seasons, so we're picking later every year.

It's been really warm the last couple of days, so I'm hopeful for later in the week.
