insanely fast growing monotub

hey quick question. So I spawned 5 quarts of malabar to 1 brick of coir, 5 quarts of water, 1 quart of coffee, and 0.3 quarts of gypsum. I did this ten days ago. I plugged the holes really tight with polyfil and left the monotub out in the open (closed lid, of course). It took about a week to fully colonize. I was out of town for the last 3 days and when I came back there are pins all over it. I didn't even case it which I guess I won't be doing now. But my question is this: Why the hell did it grow so fast? Normally when I do a monotub with those ratio's it takes about a week to colonize, a week to consolidate, and a week to pin. This time around the whole process from pasteurization to VERY visible pins took 10 days. Did I cultivate some super malabar strain or something? I'm excited but also really confused about the whole situation.

Oh, also I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but the monotub was infront of my window that had most of the sun being blocked out with the shades pulled down. My apartment is really spacious and light enters from all side, so it definitely received sun light during all of it's stages of development. Roger Rabbit said that this is fine. Not sure if that makes a difference.

sounds like you started fruiting right when you made your tub. filling holes with polyfil, leaving it out in the open for airflow, leaving it by a window where light would go through the plastic..
thats probably why it went so fast. post some pics!

Yeah, I made sure to very tightly stuff the holes. I read that serves the same purpose as taping the holes during colonization. Also, as I stated before, Roger Rabbit said that he allows all of his mycellium to be exposed to light during all stages, even right after inoculation, therefore I went ahead and did the same. My only fear is that this early pinning and fruiting may cause a weaker flush or something? Right now though, the pins are all over the tub and appear to be really healthy, considering I didn't even case. Who knows. I'll try to post some pictures later tonight.

It doesnt sound early to me. Just about right on time for a 1:2 spawn ratio with 5 quarts. Pics

I suppose. I've done the same ratio with PESH, Orissa, GT, and B+, and they took about 3 weeks from pasteurization to first flush. One more question...I have always cased in the past...this time I didn't. Is that going to make a big difference?

I will upload them tonight without a doubt. Things have been really chaotic the last few days with university finals so I completely forgot. Expect them at around 11pm EST.

100% colonization is the biggest pinning trigger
i used to wait til my tubs looked 100 percent before opening but now i wait until i get pins before opening up to fae
ive had a similar thing happen with a tub of PE
i used a high spawn ratio and the tub was ready and kicking within a week

Here are some pictures taken from my phone. I just got the phone so I dont know if the pictures are clear enough, but I think they should be. The pictures range from side shots, to the middle of the tub, to all of the tub. Notice middle of the tub has very little pins. Strange. Tell me what you think.

That is some amazing looking rhizo growth, NICE!
BTW did you know that you can download an app that the cops have that can take any pic from an iphone and tell the exact GPS coordinates that it was taken from, it was on the news tonight, pervs were finding pics that people took of their kids in their bedrooms and using the app to find out exactly where the child in the pics house and even bed room are. Just warning you that iphone now attaches GPS coordinates to all of the pics taken on the phone and who's phone took the pic.

This is 'usually' contained in the EXIF data in the photo, and i was under the impression that the Shroomery now auto-removes said data upon uploading images.
Maybe im wrong, hope not.

shroomery does delete all EXIF data. and GPS data is contained in the EXIF data.
besides the fact that you should be deleting the EXIF data yourself anyways. its actually very simple.
open your iphone pic in MS PAINT and then save it from there as jpg or png or w/e

Things just go faster sometimes, stuffing a 1" or larger hole with polyfil no matter how tightly stuffed will always allow more air exchange than a hole that is taped shut with packaging tape on both sides. You had enough air moving through that polyfill to encourage pinning around the edge but still held in enough co2 to colonize rapidly so it looks like you hit it just right. If you were there to pull polyfill out a couple days sooner you might have had pinning all the way to the center but you also might have thrown a casing on it and slowed it down by a week. Nice flush and I'd expect a large flush in the center for the second flush if you play things right.

yeah this tub is spent. I threw it away after the 2nd flush. I always throw my tubs out after two flushes because my apartment is dirty and stuff contaminates after the 2nd flush normally. only got 6 oz out of it dry from two flushes. they dried really small. definitely was a pretty looking tub though.
