eBay tactics

i have been living on eBay lately looking at vintage dolls and dolls for doner parts. it was always my tactic to bid on items at the last second to try to win them but lately its not working and i lost out on 2 really nice vintage 1960's barbies for real cheap. i have my eyes on a few Bild Lilli german Barbie clones i would really like to win. how do you normally win eBay auctions? do you have any hints or strategies you would like to share with me? no worries its ok i promise i wont use them against you... as long as your not buying barbie's

you gotta learn the very second you can bid where no one can bid higher than you... Since computer speeds vary, keep track how long it takes for you to make a bid. For me, I make sure my last bid is in at around 10 seconds. Another thing I do is bid a 'little' higher than you normally want.... So say someones bid is at 16 dollars, there is a chance that bidder put their highest bid at 20 dollars... So instead of bidding 20 yourse, bid something like $22.50
I have won many awesome things on ebay and ALMOST won just as many!!!!

just bid at the last second like usual, only now you need to know what your "max" price your willing to pay for it and put that in. There's 2 many people on ebay now, u just have to figuer out what your willing to pay

I would always bid something like $12.51, $26.51, etc. Or you could go with .56 or something like that. A lot of other people just bid whole numbers or at the .50 cent mark.

ok im going to give odd numbers a shot
dammit it has a bid now.. someone else is interested.. mite have to pick up my BF near when it ends, looks like he mite have to wait hehe.
whats the point of bidding early? like some people bid 5 days before its over.. i dont see a point unless they are bidding super high to guarantee a win, but seems like they are also guaranteeing jacking the price up when it could be un-necessary..

Auction Sentry Works great for me
combine that with bidding at like 67 cents more than you normally do and sniping with just a couple seconds left works wonders, it even has profit tracking built in although I'm not sure how to use all that yet.

Bid lower, but bid on everything. And look for people that don't know what they have or don't know how to describe it. I'll find auctions sometimes that say "I don't know what this is..." and it's perfectly obvious what it is.

There are "sniping" software that can automatically bid at the last second for you.
Really though, since you're making the effort to bid at the last second, it's all about price. You just gotta learn what the market is. My guess is that with vintage dolls, you are bidding against a seasoned crowd that knows wtf they're doing. Bid higher

I bid very early. And just bid the max I'm willing to pay (or close to it). If its something I really want, I don't see a point in waitin till the last minute.

I use eSnipe. I always win.
http://www.esnipe.com/
Just set it up to bid however much you're willing to pay within the last 3 seconds. You have to pay a fee of 1% of the auction price, but the convenience is worth it IMHO.
And they let you try it out for a few weeks with no fees BTW. Nice Firefox addon makes the whole process effortless too.

i'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it previously or not, but use those 'bid sniping' sites or programs. basically you set up an account, and put in the items details, and it will track the bid for you and auto bid up to your maximum price at the last minute. which is almost auto-win. And never bid till the end. You don't want people knowing they have competition, just snap it up at the end of the bid.

I always found that retarded, it seems like such a duh thing yet people still do it...
Anyways, a thing I do is have two windows open, one with the auction, and one with my bid a click away from being put in, that way I can see if the price is changing and modify my bid accordingly.

I've seen shit go for more than retail and more than the same item that's buy it now because people get into pissing contests when they bid.
Most of the good deals I get are just from buy it now. A Loy of people over look the buy it now because they think they are going to get something for super cheap by bidding.

Yup. I don't follow items if there's been a lot of early bidding. It means that two guys are ready to get into a pissing contest over the item-- possibly paying more than it is worth...
The good items are the ones that have a bid or two-- a day left-- below reserve. Hidden gems!

yeah collecting anything in general is extremely expensive, in fact it mostly just involves spending money lol. thats why im getting into the restoration as well you can get things a little cheaper and make them pretty, make sad dolls happy and breathe new life into them im hoping that spending less money on drugs will help
