Thoughts on casing material found at ACE
    #1439191 - 04/08/03 02:04 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Jennifer picked up a few bags of stuff to try as casing material at Ace today. She was wondering if there was a good way to tell if it would make decent casing material.

Brand: Schultz "MoisturePlus Potting Mix" (not associated with the malt liquer so many of the brothers like)

Ingredients: Reed-Sedge peat, composted forest products or composted rice hulls, canadian sphagnum peat moss, horticultural perlite, lime (for ph) a wetting agent, and water holding polymer "crystals"

1 cu. foot was 2 bux

should I not even bother?

Reed-Sedge peat

This is strange indeed. Reeds and Sedges are in two different families, and not even close to being related to peat.

it says "reed-sedge peat, composted forrest products or composted rice hulls"

would it make an acceptable casing material?  What disadvantages might it have?

It looks like it would provide advantageous, if it's not nutritious, with those additions. Give it a whir, i'm curious how it goes.

My friends outward from where I don't know use Miracle Grow - Moisture Control (Aqua Coir) to case... Old Timer from mycotopia.net swears by the stuff; my friends told me though that the biggest problem is it might be too dense so add some verm in...

Jennifer may add some verm if it looks a little tight. She just Innoc some corn so it'll be a few weeks before the results are known.
