OK so when? the Ohio Valley temps have been so inconsistent, Ive been busting my ass, with high hopes (a canadian geese almost took my head off protecting its nest!), but with no luck. Does the temp @ night need to stay above 60?
I wouldn't even think about hitting the spot listed above, not worth the risk!

So basically the cops searched you illegally (or you were dumb and accidently consented) and you think this has something to do with the patriot act.
I've refused my share of searches. I've seen my parents refuse the cops request to search our house even though a friends dad called them and told them he saw us all smoking weed.
Clearly you don't know how to assert your rights effectively. Or maybe you look poor or black and the cops don't give a fuck about your rights.

And if they do catch you with shrooms just pretend that you didn't know they were illegal. Maybe pick some random non-actives to make this plausible.
All in all. Don't fucking talk to the cops. Act fucking stupid and don't incriminate yourself.
Of course if this is private property then you should probably find a less sketch place to hunt.
This is private property.... and even if it were public and the cops know about the shroomz they will still scope as they do to the parks in the area along the same road.
NOW
since lots on here seem to think they are right about what they say on here
YOU ALL NEED TO GO READ UP ON YOUR LAWS.... THE PATRIOT ACT GIVES COPS THE RIGHT TO SEARCH YOU AND YOUR PERSONAL BELONGS WHILE YOU ARE OUT SIDE OF YOUR OWN HOME... THIS GOES FOR ANYONE, ANY WHERE... YOUR CELL PHONE, CAR, WALLET, POCKETS, BACKPACKS AND WHATEVER ELSE YOU HAVE ON YOU IS SUBJECT TO SEARCH ALL BECAUSE OF THE PATRIOT ACT
NEW BEE'S IF YOUR GOING TO SIT HERE AND TELL ME COPS CANT SEARCH ME WITH OUT A WARRANT OR MY PERSONAL CONSENT YOU ARE 100% WRONG AND CLEARLY HAVE NOT BEEN ARRESTED ANYTIME RECENTLY
I SUGGEST TURNING ON YOUR TV'S AND READING THE LAWS THAT GOVERN YOU, TO KEEP YOU FROM MAKING INCREDIBLE COMMENTS SUCH AS, "DONT LET THEM SEARCH YOU"
AGAIN.... THE PATRIOT ACT GOT RID OF THINGS LIKE THAT FOR US.... REMEMBER THAT WAS ALL DONE TO PROTECT US FROM THE TERRORISTS!!! THANKS YOU VOTERS FOR READING IN BETWEEN THE LINES
If I'm walking in a park or down a public street and a cop says something to me I don't even have to acknowledge the cop. I don't have to speak to the cop, I don't have to show him my ID, and I sure as hell don't have to let him search me.
No one is trying to bitch about your info, but what you don't seem to grasp is that the "Ohio Valley" could be anywhere along the Ohio river and so if you don't list a city or county then this info is only useful to people who know exactly what you are talking about. I'm not sure if you know people that post here that know about this spot or what, but I do know that people should always use common sense when picking active mushrooms in a public place. Sure on foot the cop can't do shit to me, but once I get in a car it's a completely different story.
Thanks for trying to do a good deed. Sorry it didn't get the response I guess you were expecting.

Discussion of weather is against the rules.
All I can say is this is my third season hunting Ovoids and I haven't found a single one. I've spent many, many days searching. Some people get lucky and find them on their first couple hunts, but don't expect that it's just so easy that you will find them in no time wherever you look.
They are out right now already, so go hunt!!!

its cool man, I know there are a few on here that may see what I wrote about the stream.... and go, oh shit I pick there and there has been a bust there in over 5 years.... so hopefully it will be useful info....
but to the guy about the refusing the cops a search of his home with out a warrant.... YES you are 100% right.... like i said the patriot act gives the cops that right to do what ever they want to you outside you HOME.... including searching you IF they suspect something just like what that dewd said 2 posts up.... Most of you seemed to be confused and clearly just dont understand the patriot act... you all can assume because of your omniscient attitude, but as Ive been to court in recent years and dealing with attorneys you come to realize that the patriot act gives the cops all kinds of right to do whatever they want now.... AND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT SAID WAS BRING UP THE TERRORISM AND THE PORTS AND THE COPS HAVE TO HAVE A GOOD REASON.... BECAUSE OF THE PATRIOT ACT IT IS NO LONGER "PROBABLE CAUSE" IT IS NOW "REASONABLE SUSPISION" WHICH GIVES COPS TO WHATEVER BASED ON THEIR JUDGEMENT ALL ELSE WILL BE SORTED OUT IN COURT.... SO IF YOUR WALKING THROUGH THE WOODS AND DONT KNOW ITS A FIELD AND THE COPS ARE WATCHING, THEY WILL DEFINITELY APPROACH YOU... IF YOU DONT HAVE ANY BAGS OR A BACK PACK CHANCES ARE THEY WILL TELL YOU TO GET OUT OF THERE..... SERIOUSLY, YOU CLEARLY DONT UNDERSTAND THE PATRIOT ACT.... CALL YOUR POLICE STATION, YOUR CONGRESSMEN, OR EVEN AN ATTORNEY, THEY WILL FILL YOU IMMEDIATELY AS TO HOW YOUR ARE WRONG AND EVEN THOUGH SOME FACTS WERE LIST AS RIGHT, THEY ARE USED TO INVADE OUR PRIVACY.... THOSE ARE 100% FACTS COMING FROM SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE ABOUT THEM
NO WORRIES ON YOUR IGNORANT RESPONSES... i POSTED THIS FOR PICKERS IN THE OHIO VALLEY, WHY DO YOU CARE IF YOUR NO WHERE NEAR IT?

i know not really discussing the weather, just curious if there was a minimal temp before fruiting. I spent several hours in some prime spots, and found a lot of different species, however no actives to speak of.
I will keep hunting for these little buggers, just trying to gain the upper hand. http:// I'm soooo sick of finding these M.F.ERS

No worries man... check this out.... Ovoid season is from may 1st to june 30th.... EVERY YEAR Ive been watching them for ten years now... if we have very little rain or lots, they grow between those times.... if we have very little rain, they dont go much past the 2nd week of june... but opening day was yesterday (even though they start coming up a week before that here and there...) and they are growing... so if you aren't finding them, your either not looking hard enough, or they simply just dont grow there... keep your head down and make sure you have a nice stick!
good luck man!

To those of you who think that authorities and cops can't search you without a warrant or that you can refuse...are wrong. Technically the answer is yes, you can refuse, but all a cop has to report is something called "probable cause," which basically means " I thought I saw, smelled, thought...etc."
Never forget, the cops can and will do whatever the fuck they want. Every once in a while they get spanked, but why give them the chance?

its not PROBABLE CAUSE any more..... its "RESONABLE SUSPICION" it had to be changed to that in the patriot act to make what you just said legit

Again OP, you are wrong. I have personally refused to be stopped, refused to give my ID, and refused to be searched both at home and out on foot.
Cops can't come in your house without a warrant, unless you invite them in or they break the law. I've read most of the patriot act and while it doesn't destroy the bill or rights for the most part cops don't cite it as an excuse to do whatever they want.
Maybe you've had different experiences, but when the cops come to my door I don't even open it, I talk through the door to them. I don't give a fuck what the patriot act says because the patriot act is criminal, wrong, unjust, and insane. Therefore, I disregard it. I know the rights that I should have and I'm exercising those rights when needed. It works. The only time you are helpless is when you're in a vehicle.

man, I got the crap scared out of me at the park last week. I just came out of the woods and my pants were soaked up to my balls. I had 4 large ovoids(these ones)[url=http://files.shroomery.org/files/11-17/394552522-SANY0001_2.jpg][image] in my hand and a park ranger drove by me really slow. I later found out the park was/is closed

I don't know about ohio river valley, but in southern west virginia the cops do what they want pretty much when they want. You give them any shit and they'll pretty much beat the shit out of you and you'll rack up the charges. They can be very inventive here. So no matter where you're at just be fucking careful about what you're doing.

This is a ridiculously frivolous thread that doesn't really pertain much to mushroom hunting.. I didn't even want to reply, but seriously, you all need to read this useful little piece of literature called the US CONSTITUTION... particularly the 4th amendment. amilibertine is apparently the only citizen here who understands his rights.

I love people telling me I'm wrong when I have on many occasions successfully refused being stopped, searched, or generally harassed. Cops are shady, and they do break the laws, but you can win if you know what to do.
For example, one day a couple months ago a friend and I were walking down the street. A cop pulls over and starts asking us what we are doing. We said we are walking down the street. He said come here, we said no. He asked to see our ID's, we said no. He got frustrated and started being an ass, we asked him if we were being detained. We had to ask three times to get an answer. Finally he said no you are not being detained, we said good day and turned and kept walking.
Another time that same week we were in my dudes apartment. We heard a gunshot across the street. An hour and a half later cops show up at his door. They knocked and my friend put the chain on the door and opened in just enough to see the cops. They told us they got a report of gunfire from our building. We told them about what we heard and that it was an hour and a half ago. They asked if they could come in and look around, he said no. They tried to lie and say that if we had an accidental discharge that it was okay but they needed to have a look. He told them that 1: the gunshot was across the street, 2: it was an hour and a half ago, and 3: that they weren't coming in without a search warrant. They weren't happy but they left the building and stood out front with some more officers and the kept pointing at my friends apartment. Finally they came and knocked again. This time they tried to tell us that other tenants in the building had given them some new information and that they needed to come inside. My friend asked them what kind of info they had received, they wouldn't say. My friend told them they weren't coming in without a warrant, that we didn't have any guns/weapons in the apartment, and that he was done talking to them. He shut the door and they went back outside for another 20 minutes or so, then they left.
So why didn't they wave the almighty patriot act in our face and kick the door in?
Why didn't the cop tackle my friend and I when we walked away from him?

Good point ^^ now the thing is - every state in the USA has different regulations and rules on the "searching" of people persons and things - every state is DIFFERENT - just how in cali you can f'n buy herb at the stores - and here in WI you'd be OOOOOH so fucked just having one joint or a seed n your car
Sometimes you gotta learn the hard way
But for good practice - learn from YOUR LOCAL attorney how to avoid shakedowns at traffic stops - - - - - I have a card given to me by a very old attorney many yrs ago - and she also gave me DAMN FIND instructions to use with it too FIRST: you gotta have a "invocation of rights" card FOR YOUR SPECIFIC STATE SECOND: (( THIS GOES FOR HERE IN WISCONSN)) - you MUST kno how your local officers act in routine traffic stops - - -- - HERE in WI - they pull you over - give you the usual rundown - and they most of the time come back with a ticket or warning - they have you sign it and take a copy thru the window - then THE PIGGY SAYS " ooooooh my - one more thing before im off here , i just have to ask, arrrgghh, but you wouldn't happen to have any guns, atomic bombs, drugs, or illegal immigrants( trying to be the joking nice guy) in your car would you??"
SEE: most people here think you HAVE to keep talking to the officer and do WHATEVER he asks or says
WRONG
In this state - once given your ticket or warning your FREE TO GO ( but you can't punch the officer or leave in a cloud of dust = you GOTTA ASSERT YOUR RIGHTS!!!!! But see thats how they try n trick you into consenting onto a vehicle search - YOU DON"T HAVE TO TALK - ( and as the OP said tho - you don't wanna come off the wrong way = the cop really could sprinkle some crack on you and shoot you if he wanted and was capable) but you have to ASSERTIVELY and POLITELY - say...................
"Thankyou for your concern officer - BUT IM REALLY REALLY offended by what you just asked me - this has been a rough day - this ticket made it worse AND im VERY VERY busy i have to pick up the kid, go to grandma's, blah blah blah - HOLD UP YOUR INVOCATION OF RIGHTS CARD AS SAYING THIS TOO Politely end with - "id rather invoke ALL MY RIGHTS under the state of ____ and the US constitution AND BE ON MY WAY"
That scenario has played out QUITE a few times n my day - and when done like this - no searching was employed
Had one sherrif walk off saying "why would you do that?" - ( again you don't have to answer) "ahhh your dirty" he said as he walked to his squad and i was FREE TO GO
Always best to be SAFE and not be dirty n any way But it really can pay off in legal fee's knowing how to assert your rights
Also note- get in practice from NOW ON - FOREVER _ never NEVER consent to their searches - or questions - - -- - -
And for those of you who obviously ARN'T n wisconsn - just research your local and state laws YOURSELF or with the help of a TRUSTED attorney You may be suprized how much power YOUR words n simple actions can carry!!
folks im wishing everyone here a SAFE and fruitfully happy season

Think someone needs a hug...
No, patriot act does not allow that... I deal with different parts of the act, and am familiar with the whole thing... Still have to have probable cause... They can ask, but you can say No... Unless they have a valid reason to search you, they can't legally ... Not even in georgia or Ohio ...
Anyway.... From the people on here... Don't think many of us will be arrested in te Ohio Valley... Like I said... Thanks for the warning!

Since everyone is giving their two cents on the topic of police searches vs. your/our rights so I thought I would chime in as well. First, everyone has had different experiences in life with their local authorities, so you can't say "example X is what always works". Second, Wisco is right on; every state or jurisdiction is different, so is every cop, prosecutor, and judge. Get some good advice from someone who has a legal background, have a plan, and don't be afraid to stand up for yourself if the usual "yes sir, no sir" bullshit isn't working. The more you know the better off you are... no offense OP, but did you really say "I SUGGEST TURNING ON YOUR TV'S"?
