Growing questions.

After countless times of me saying im going to invest on a mycology setup and blowing it off im finally going to give it a go. I just had a few questions, I am using the PF-Tek if that's necessary to know while answering. 1. What is the best way's to avoid contamination's? 2. What mushroom spore works well with the PF-Tek? Also what ones are high in potency? 3. Im planning on using a space heater to keep the closet at 78F and misting 4 times a day then fanning right after the misting, does this sound good? 4. Im going to use a 12 hour on 12 hour off light schedule. What kind of light should I use and should I place it directly on top of my FC or facing the side of my fc?
Thanks alot guy's austinh111

It's a awesome hobbie to get into.
1 - Be sterile as fuck. Invest in oust or lysol, bleach, peroxide, and Isopropyl. Make a glove box Work in a clean environmet (Avoid carpet and high bacteria areas) Bomb the area with the chemicals and get it nice and sanitary. Pressure cooker is the best investment. Flowhoods are sweet too, but wait til ya get your foot in the door.
2 - I imagine you will be growing cubensis? In which case most any strain you can find will do. They will all be pretty close to equally resistant, it is in your process where the contams will step in.
3 - I never had an issue incubating jars but most people would recommend to avoid it. As far as the substrate goes, I like to keep it right about 70 when fruiting or colonizing. Along with excessive heat will come weaker, more hollow stems. High temps will allow other contams to step it up and over run your mycelium if your process was not sterile.
4 - 12/12 is what you want and a 6500 daylight flouro will do. RR recommends having the light be to the side rather than above, I believe.
Hope you can pull some alright info from this.

1. "Contamination free growing is achieved by following proper sterile procedure during inoculations, and by air exchange during fruiting cycles." RR 2. Psilocybe cubensis. You mean what "strain"? Pick one 3. It depends on what kind of fruiting chamber you're building…? 4. Natural daylight. On top.

1.A dry layer of verm, foil if you're paranoid, and keep the vars far from the ground, air vents or open windows. 2.Any cube 3.Don't incubate, it helps contams grow! Your FC should be closer to 70 than 80. 4.Broad spectrum light, above not on top

sounds good except wasting money on running a space heater in a closet which isnint needed and sounds dangerous! if u have bought ur stuff yet I would suggest go straight to grains its more rewarding and very easy as well!

The space heater that im planning on buying turns it self off. But the idea sounds interesting, do you have any links that are as easy as the Pf Tek to follow?

Please support local vendors rather than wally world. I know RR agrees with that statement and will tell you that himself (I've grown to trust his advice and this cannot be overstated).

I like the oil filled radiator type heaters for smaller areas. They are safe and accurate. They will work in larger areas as well. I run a HEPA whole room filter fan for FAE.

Just jump in, the water's fine. The best way to learn is by doing; don't worry about mistakes. Find a decent tek, follow it as closely as you can, and you'll come out with fruits
