Either or fine seems to hold water better, but course verm makes nice little pockets for mycelium to form!

Course is best , it allows casing to be more fluffy , it packs down less allowing for faster , more even mycelial growth . Also creates pits and valleys that create microclimates ideal for pins to develop in . But either will do in a pinch , sometimes the course stuff is harder to find .

My friend couldn't find coarse so he had to use fine... it worked out though.. maybe not optimal but it was his first grow. He did learn that extra "pockets" or "valley's" made by thicker vercumlite would definatly speed up the colonization process. He'll try his best to find coarse next time.
