The most tragically funny thing I've ever read.
    #14384833 - 05/01/11 08:35 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I maintain that these people are beyond repair, the only thing we as a civilization can do, is kill them, or lock them up for life. It just doesn't make sense to repeatedly incarcerate them over the course of their entire life, as they obviously just come out more fucked up than before they went in. Prison is like a distillery of assholes.

What do you think?

Here's some music to listen to while you mull it over.

.................................................................

A group of deaf friends were stabbed at a bar in Florida after a woman mistook their sign language for gang signs.

Alfred Stewart, 31, was partying at the Ocean's Eleven Lounge in Hallendale Beach, Fla., with some friends who were also deaf on Saturday night when the group's signing caught the eye of gang-banger Barbara Lee.

The 45-year-old Lee though the group was throwing gang signs at her, and responded by flashing gang signs back at them, cops said.

The group motioned for her to leave them alone.

Eventually, Lee left the bar but returned with two members of her crew, 19-year-old Marco Ibanez and a 17-year-old who was not identified, cops said.

Ibanez allegedly pulled a knife and began stabbing Stewart and his friends.

Stewart and three of his friends were taken to a hospital and treated for stab wounds.

A bouncer at the bar who had a bottle smashed over his head in the melee was also taken to the hospital. None of the injuries were life-threatening, officials said.

Lee, Ibanez and the 17-year-old were arrested and charged with aggravated battery.

Stewart's mother, Brenda, said there was no way her son was making gang signs.

"Only sign language," she told WSVN television. "That's the only way all of them, they do sign language."

The reason prison doesn't work is because there is no attempt at changing the person, just on punishing them.

You would think that people would get it. Just like being punished by your parents didn't make you love them more, it just breeds resentment.

Instead if they actually had a program of rehabilitation these people could get help and be actually productive members of society.

Plus if you're 45 and a woman and still gang banging, that's apparently what you really want to do.

I don't know, I think after a certain point, people are beyond rehabilitation. If your a methed out 35 year old white chick with penciled on eyebrows, whose throwing gangsigns at a bunch of deaf dudes in a night club, there's really not much we can do with or for you. Your brain is broken.

Exactly, and having people like that around is not healthy for the rest of society. I don't want these motherfuckers living down the street from me, nor do I want them procreating and forcing their diseased world view on a childs mind. At the very least I think mandatory sterilization is in order for repeat violent offenders.

Wow. Those poor kids were just hanging out trying to have a good time.

I bet those kids are scarred for life and won't want to be out in public with their sign language.

Jammin tunes BTW :awedance: Nice little mood change there. From the tunes, not the deaf stabbing.

Not every seed is viable.

Not every flower blooms.

Somehow we're deluded with our idealism that every human is potentially a good human.

I don't know, I think the potential for good is there in everyone, but some obviously just don't give a shit. At some point I just want to respect their chosen position in life and kick them the fuck out of society. We need another Australia.

A similarly uplifting story involves the attempted rape of a 99 year old woman:

:frown:
its so sad that people grow up in such twisted worlds where everything they see is a reflection of the hate in their heart. When people have hate all they can see in others is hate and agression and they respond that way... prison really should be rehabilitative, i agree, rather than pure punishment. its like a time out for a kid but without reason. or like hitting your dog weeks after it pooped on the carpet. it doessnt make sense. they dont get it and they dont learn : (
so sad. so so very sad. i really do want to cry a little bit

In many of these tragic cases, the perpetrators have genuine neurological disorders that are not remedied or allayed by medication or treatment.

That's just simply the way things are as far as we know.

We can't shake our stick at the corruption of modernity, or blame serotonin imbalances, or a hostile family environment. There are obviously many factors that co-create an individual's behavior, but since the dawn of human civilization there have always been plain ol shitty people.

Maybe they can be fixed eventually, but we waste a lot of time and energy baby-sitting the duds.

Not everyone can be "rehabilitated". There are a lot of broken motherfuckers out there, and all we can really do at this point in time is lock 'em up, kill 'em, or let 'em go. If someone doesn't want to change, there's really not too much you can do.

If you chose to the incarceration route, you've gotta deal with the fact that you're locking 'em up with other people who could still be rehabilitated, effectively eliminating any possibility of a stable enough environment for rehabilitation to occur. Social hierarchies exist in prison, just like in the rest of society, and when violence is your only currency, sociopaths are going to be at the top of the pyramid.

These violent fucks are a social cancer spreading their disease throughout the rest of society, so what are we going to do, because everything we've tried so far clearly doesn't work?

how the fuck wouldnt you be able to tell these people are deaf?

i understand being human means that if youre given the oppertunity to do bad most people will take the route

but to stab deaf people bc they were flashing gang signs is seriously making me want to puke

Clearly she lacked the mental tools necessary to be freely commingling in society with the level of freedom we grant to the average human being. People like that are like wild animals. If a wolf was walking around in the streets of a city, you'd call animal control to come deal with it, yet we let these predictors have all the autonomy in the world.

Maybe once we start colonizing other planets we can just sterilize 'em and drop 'em off.

I really enjoy reading your posts as you always have some good insight,  and I'm not very well read on the subject myself, but have you seen Zeitgeist: Moving Forward?  It makes a fucking solid case for environment/culture&society being the major  influences on one's health from the (especially crucial) womb until death.  But it does also say there are quite a few other factors involved, not the least of which is one's attitude, education, and access to accurate information, and I concur some people are just assholes.
