People are disagreeing with their own concepts at this point.

Please define what you mean by spirituality here.  I'll agree that for many people belief in an afterlife and karma is a sign of being unable to face reality.

Gandhi with The Wind had a thang for underaged girls. Neither could MLK keep it in his pants. Sounds like amazing mental discipline.

Sure, but wishful thinking seems like a much more logical explanation for our belief in an afterlife.

ya, it's a fine line.  at this point i feel like belief in an afterlife is helping me in my egoic goals rather than hurting me, so i've just embraced it

Relating back to your thread on wisdom, wouldn't the wiser choice be to act as if there is no afterlife?  After all, if you're wrong then no harm is done as you're immortal and if you're right then you've successfully avoided squandering your only available life.  Better safe then sorry IMO.

think of it this way: if we only have one life, our time is better spent on certain specialized interests.  if we are immortal, the possibilities of what to do with our time are endless because any skill developed will be useful eventually.  to me it leads to a more optimistic worldview because nothing i'm doing is wasted.  If i want to be a rapper in the next life, even though i'm white and soft as a pillow in this one, i might as well work on my freestyling now.  crazy?OR SUPER AWESOME :discorex:

To me, being immortal would provide much less of an incentive to do anything right now.  After all, if I've got all of eternity waiting for me then what's the rush?

hmm. the thing that makes me "spiritual" is having observed all my life that something seems to be missing in people

as if they are all living a "weak-minded fantasy"

"oh look, another definition for "spirituality"" ____ might say.

religion is a sham, imo. But spirituality for me has always been trying to not live a sham, and constantly learning that I know even less than I thought I knew when I thought I knew nothing. Something like that. I don't have a real definition for it I'm kinda just here and trying to find my place in the world or lack thereof.

what else am I supposed to call it?

there isn't one. Feeling like there's a rush is actually slowing you down; i see it in so many people. Move like water!
