Would someone recommend some books on the alchemical process/history of alchemy/psychology behind it etc.

Start with the Kybalion. If that tickles your fancy, I like the Divine Pimander of Hermes, the Emerald tablet, and from there lots of others, but start with Hermes the mother-fucking Thrice Greatest.

after seeing your inquiry i looked into the kybalion.
i can't help but be reminded of yoga philosophy as well as the tibetan book of the dead.
i always love comparing spiritual works to one another to find common themes and this book is great as well as the mythology that goes along with it.
anyone else notice this?

Depending on how you mean Alchemy exactly.. But two that started me in beautifully, were both by Deepak Chopra-
