Couple noob questions pls help

Hi I'm a beginner with a few questions I couldn't find straight answer to any help would be appreciated
Q#1 when mixing a bulk substrate or a casing how is the percentage measured.? For example one substrate I've read about was 50% coir 40% straw 10% dehydrated manure (I don't have access to fresh). Is this measured by dry weight? Wet weight? Wet volume?
Q# 2 with my pf cakes I am experiencing weak flushes, almost all aborts and pinning is only occurring at the top and bottom of the cake. Is this an RH or CO2 problem? Sorry for non pictures I'm working on them
Q#3 I'm about to do wbs is a spawn bag. I picked a mix that include wheat and cracked corn in addition to millet. Should I keep the filter patch above the spawn? While pcing do I need to keep the patch dry (like cover it with tape) or will evaporate take care of that while it cools? also If the spawn touches the patch will it be a problem? Would spawning this to straight coir work ok?
Last one Q#4 how does one properly pasteurize a casing layer? Do use an oven? microwave? Or just mix with still boiling water? I was looking at the 50/50 peat moss and verm tek
I know these questions may sound stupid but hey I am a noob and I'm trying to get my education. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I edited this to make the questions more clearly worded once again any help is appreciated

1. they are talking about physical material volume. I like to just eyeball my substrates and just do what feels best, you dont have to be precise.
2.hard to tell with out pics. trying fanning and misting more and mist the fuck out of those basterds when you do.
3.I dont fuck with bags sorry.
4. Depends on the caseing if you are just useing dry verm you dont have to do shit, just throw it down. Imo caseins suck on wbs coco-coir.

1. by volume 2. pinning usually occours at these places cause that is where the cakes dry out first and the sub drying out is a major pinning trigger 3. keep the WBS below the patch 4: I never case wat are you using to case?

1. You can make up any kind of bulk mixture you want, personally I use 1 brick coir, 3 pints verm, and 1.5 pints gypsum, measured by volume obviously
2. aborts can be caused by all kinds of things, usually its happens if you directly mist pins without letting them dry off properly. could also be low RH, low FAE, high/low temps, etc
3. I don't do bags but i would venture to guess you should keep it above spawn level
4. I just mix my bulk with 5 to 5.5 quarts of boiling water in a turkey fryer with a lid that has a built in meat thermometer. I let it sit till it cools, stirring occasionally. You can't do this if youre using manure though, you'll have to use a more difficult method of pasteurization
Edit: whoops, I thought you meant bulk substrate for #4. I don't case.

To all you who don't case. Say I did wbs spawn and mixed with with straight coir, would I just put it in a foil roasting pan to colonize, then put in a shotgun fc? Or could I premix them, then pc in a bag, then inoculate and do a pf style block? What would be recommended without a casing?

let the wbs spawn colonize, mix with pasteurized coir in roasting pan, let colonize w/ foil on top, place in sgfc

Thanks man. I happen to have the same turkey fryer, that's a great idea
