Working up my first desert camping/fishing/tripping hike...
    #14380565 - 05/01/11 12:28 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I'm planning on hiking downstream the Rio Penasco river in southern New Mexico mountains, it runs out into the desert, it holds trophy-sized trout.  I've caught browns up to 22 inches in it, big fat ones.  I will probably hike down in the desert where there are just big pools of cold water, find a nice spot, camp out and eat a couple of feet of Bridgesii cactus and trip all night.  It would be nice to get a couple of browns or rainbows and stuff them with hot peppers, garlic, tomato, and onions, and roast them over a campfire.  :awesomenod:

But this is more of a scouting trip, I don't know how far down the penasco runs above ground before it disappears into the desert (it empties into the pecos river) Anyway, it should be a lot of fun, just to forget about everything for a couple of days and relax.  Right now, it is about 80~90 degrees in the desert in the day, and 45~70 at night, with 15% humidity.  So its a good time to go.  I'll post pics when Im back...should be leaving Wed.

Don't forget to floss.
Take toilet paper.
And have fun because it sounds dreamy.

Haha....  especially toilet paper.  I've heard stories of people wiping their butt with poison ivy...  :rofl2:

Only most of my early years living in new mexico.  I used to go hiking with nothing but a canteen and knife, and stay in the desert 2 days.  Easy to live there, as long as it isn't too cold, even then it's not that hard.  I know a lot of the plants I can eat, and which ones to get water from.
