The myth about opening windows has recently been disproven. It only invites more debris into your home.
But yes, find the (ideally) northeastern most part of your house with no windows that is strong. Shield yourself with a mattress, thick pillows. A bathroom is usually good as it is anchored with plumbing.
Of course what they don't tell you is if the tornado is an F5 or EF5+ under the new classification, it won't matter.
Because it will sweep your house off it's foundation into the blender.
In that case, be under ground or be IN the ground. Permanently.

Because most tornadoes approach from the southwest, moving NE.

so the tornada would selectivily pull things apart rather then compromising your position all at once eh?
and im white so climate change is definantly a factor

I'm not sure if you're aware of it but in a tornado, if debris wants in, it's getting in and it's not going to knock at the front door
this is wheat straw embedded in a tree because of the velocity it was hurled, I've seen it with pine straw, metal and all kinds of other crap over the years. a little glass isnt offering an protection at all

that's a myth, a tub is anchored with nails to a wall or three, modern plumbing is plastic and the old iron with lead and oakum isnt actually joined, it's just sealed and can be broken loose easily with a hammer
and regardless of how it's anchored, nothing stop is when the house goes

Exactly. A tornado powerful enough to generate low pressure strong enough to 'plode a house is also strong enough that it isn't going to respect the other structures of the house. You'll have holes everywhere.
Which is why opening windows to "equalize pressure" is a myth. Don't waste your time.
Get underground if you have that option.
An F5 will sweep a house right off its foundation.
But if you don't have that option, the points I outlined stand. You do what you can do.
And opening your windows is just silly.

the myth claims it's about equalizing pressure inside the house, it's not and it's slightly foolish, it's about the windload, you have shear and lateral, uplift and a vacancy on the back side, the shear forces pushing against the house causes the air to push over, the vacancy on the leeward side gives the uplift which is what often pulls a roof off in high winds because the air rushing over tries to fill that low pressure area, or deflects from the ground and pushes upward, opening the windows reduces the load only marginally but allows some of that air to pass through and fill the low pressure area reducing the uplift on the back side but still comes at the risk of losing your roof because of an overpressure inside the home so is it foolish t open the windows... somewhat but not when it's 95F inside your house because there's no power

An F4 can take a home off it's foundation but not an F3 according to the guidelines:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fujita_scale
If one did so that would have to be a very weak structure.
F3: Roofs and some walls torn off well-constructed houses;

I thought we already clarified that the scale is more of a general guideline and not cold hard fact, tornadoes rarely read the manual and frequently dont know how they're supposed to behave
remember, certified F1 tornadoes that have taken down homes
