actually i changed my mind, it's not really a dick move because you didn't know he was a drunk driver
sucks that is what happened, but realistically speaking you were calling in an attempt to help them

I have called the cops on a few drunk drivers. I hope they all went to jail too.
Drunk drivers deserve to roast in jail.

depends on how much you've had to drink. even the law allows a few
its a really slippery slope though, they are just asking for people to drive drunk, even when they think "im fine"

No, he cost himself all that when he got behind the wheel hammered and wrecked his car.

So is it ok to call the cops if you see someone beating the shit out of a homeless man with a hammer? or does that make you a "snitch". Just trying to understand some of the logic here.

So what if that guy some how got his car back on the road, drove off some were and ran a person over. Then the OP would of been a dick for not calling 911. We are also assuming he failed the breathalyser test. I do not think its fair to say alcohol was the main or only substance involved. He could of been intoxicated on any thing. It sure sounds like it tho.

Most of the posts in this thread are retarded. Telling him to mind his own business and Stop Snitchin'. If someone wants to get drunk in their home that's one thing. But as soon as they get in a car it is a matter of safety for everyone else. OP called the cops because the guy was stuck in a ditch, if he had been sober the cops would have helped him, if not they arrest him.
OP you did the right thing.

if it were me, i'd have pulled over, found out if he was okay, given him some water if i had any, and maybe helped him call a tow truck. We can handle ourselves, there's no need to bring the men with guns into the situation.

This right here. I find it absolutely disgusting that people snitch for non-violent drug crimes. The second you get on the road and drive drunk that goes out the window.

It wasn't a terrible move anyway. I definitely don't think you should feel any guilt for making his night worse. You didn't even say or know for sure that he was drunk. They just found out. And drunk drivers kill a ton of people.

Dunno why you feel guilt, you need a pat on the back for a job well done imo.

There's a lot of really immature, socially challenged individuals on this board.
I guess I knew that, but it's weird to see it all in one thread like this.

In case you guys ever see this in an ethics class or something, here's how it breaks down:
People need help sometimes. If you can help, help. If you can't help, get help. (Even if you can help, call for help first usually) For a motor vehicle accident, the correct help is 911/police/emergency responder.
As for the legal consequences to the driver, that's the driver's own responsibility. If he was unharmed after the accident and sober, he could have fled the scene or turned himself in or taken any other action he chose. His inability to act for himself is what makes it the business of a bystander.
Ipso facto and Q.E.D.
