yeah that was a dick move.
you just cost him hundreds if not thousands of dollars due to court fees, insurance costs, towing fees and related costs. probably will have to go to traffic school and dui classes and will have points on his driving record.
shoulda just called a tow for him.
some idiots deserve all that shit though.

yeah, they can prosecute for the DUI, if the keys are in the ignition it shows intent to drive, car in the ditch showed he was driving in an impaired state, had he been sober, wrecked the car and come back drunk to get it, well he's an idiot because that intent reappears
I had a friend that as issued a DUI while sleeping it off int he back seat of his car, he was listening to the radio with the key in the ignition, it was apparent there was no immediate intent to drive but he was charged anyway

That blows. Reason I know about that is because I was watching Cops or a variation thereof and they caught up with some drunk guy at a liquor store with his girlfriend, and they couldn't do shit about it because he got there seconds before they did and by that time he was off the bike and inside the store. Boy was he happy..

Uh, no. They can. Sounds like he was driving the car alone. Even if he had other people with him, they would question the shit out of everyone until they decided who was really driving.

they call it "intent to drive" down there? I've heard that scenarios as "showing/having positive control of the vehicle". having the keys in the ignition shows positive control.

So all the people calling the OP a dick are missing the plain and simple fact that the dude was driving drunk. I don't think it was a dick move at all, OP simply did what he felt was right and the idiot driving drunk got what he deserved.

So, what you just hung out until the cops got there to see what would happen? Seriously, get a hobby

That's not something I would ever consider doing. I can imagine if I hung out to watch the guy getting arrested though, that definitely I would be a complete cock bag for contributing to their already horrible night

No, I was on my friends porch. The wreck happened on his property, destroying part of his yard. The guys car was still slightly on the road, making it potential for someone to hit it. He didn't have his hazards on, he completely turned off his car to avoid being seen. People wreck infront of his house at least once a month.

It sounds like your friend has a pretty big property. I dunno, I'm from LA, and if anyone crashes into a property, they go straight through the livingroom, because people only have yards about as big as 4 parking spaces. Anyway, IMHO it was a dick move to involve yourself. It was already a shitty night, they didn't need your help

He owns quite a bit of land. The main reason i called though because i thought other people were in jeopardy of hitting his car because it was just over a hill and hard to see.

IMO it wasn't a dick move. you said his hazards weren't on, people often drive that windy road drunk, and that people wreck in front of your friends house once a month.

I had someone run through my fence several months back, you could clearly see where they tried to drive out but the ditch was way too deep, you could also tell where the tow truck pulled them out, whom ever it was got arrested because the cops happened to be patrolling and watched them trying to drive out of the ditch, when he got out and decided to walk somewhere the cop hit the blues

Nonsense. You can be just sitting in a parking lot in your car and get nailed.

Fuck that guy for driving drunk. He clearly wasn't capable of driving a car since he was stuck in a fucking ditch, so fuck him.
Fuck a drunk driver, he deserved to be arrested.

There's a lot of "My drug is okay but your drug isn't" going on in this thread.
Did the drunk driver hit or kill anyone? Then why are we talking about making real decisions based on hypothetical scenarios which already haven't happened?
Punitive punishment? LOL have fun with the karma of calling the police on someone coming back to you.
