Obama: We're working on gun control 'under the radar'
#14379102 - 04/30/11 07:20 PM (12 years, 8 months ago) |
|
|
"I just want you to know that we are working on it," Barack Obama reportedly told Sarah Brady regarding gun control. "We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar."
Up to this point importers have been able to replace "non-sporting" features like higher capacity magazines, folding stocks and pistol-grips with more traditionally sporting style options. They have also simply removed superfluous items such as compensators, barrel shrouds and bayonet lugs.
Under the guidelines set forth in the ATF "study," such cosmetic changes will no longer suffice. Importers will have to prove that these guns are actually, commonly used for sports ATF recognizes. The very popular 3-Gun and tactical shotgun competitions of the U.S. Practical Shooting Association, International Defensive Pistol Association and International Practical Shooting Confederation are specifically mentioned in the ATF study and dismissed as not being recognized sports because previous ATF rifle and handgun importability studies have not recognized these sports as sports. So preferred equipment for these very popular and rapidly growing international sports will be blocked from importation because ATF has not previously recognized them as sports, and they are not going to recognize them now because they have not previously recognized them. It is the logic of a merry-go-round.

I'm not worried. The NRA has way too strong of a lobby with the republican base for any measure to pass that would seriously inhibit our gun rights. I've watched time and again ballots go up that would seek to restrict gun rights only to be shot down.

Im thinking that the original intent of the second amendment had nothing to do with "Sports". But rather, providing a means for the people to protect themselves against an oppresive government.

It was in large part due to the desire to avoid having a standing army. The idea was that states would form their own militias which could fend off a foreign invasion without having to have a standing army that would be used for foreign intervention. Kind of like what Switzerland has today.

This interesting bit of news was reported in an April 11 Washington Post Lifestyle section story about Obama's gun-control and regulatory policy wonk Steve Croley. Toward the end of the article the writer, Jason Horowitz, mentions a March 30 meeting between Jim and Sarah Brady and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney during which the President "dropped in."
Horowitz quotes Sarah Brady relating how President Obama gave his personal assurance that he and his administration were working hard on a gun-control agenda. Brady reported that Obama then told them about advancing the agenda "under the radar."
Apparently Mrs. Brady either doesn't grasp the concept of "under the radar," or, more likely, she expected the reporter to be discreet and keep the "good news" about Obama's stealth operations to himself. Thankfully this reporter chose to report the news, so we have direct corroboration of Obama's sneak-attack against the Second Amendment.

Cool.
Obama can't touch the Second Amendment though. I hope he learned that when he was in law school.

I remember reading a story:
After WW2 a prominent Japanese General was interviewed. One of the questions asked was, what plans were in place for a Japanese invasion of the mainland US. His response was, that there was never a plan for that. They knew that because such a high number of the citizens were armed, that there was no way they could succeed with such a venture.
On a side note though. I think that properly placed shots from "sporting" weapons, are a far, far more effective defense than some full auto, high capacity magazine firearm, with muzzlebreaks, suppressors, and all the other needless BS attached.

The government and media frown on and will only show negetive press to ANY independent miltia. When is the last time you heard a positive militia story on the news? Now granted, these orgs. usually attract the exact wrong kind of people to begin with, but a bunch of people meeting with guns, and bitching about the government is bound to eventually go the wrong direction.
Now the argument has been made that the National Guard was the original intent behind a state militia. The problem with that is, the NG is still under federal command. "Officially" they are governed by the state. At least until their units rotation to be deployed comes around. Then they get shipped off just like regular military. To me this all ultimately means, federal control.

They can come for the guns but, their gonna get the bullet's first. and since my wife shoots too. it's gonna be double trouble.
I actually don't believe the goverment will try to take my guns. they just want to start restrictions and make it hard to buy more guns/harder to own them if you have any kind or police record.

I didn't mean to imply anything about race. Though I think the "lost cause" narrative reeks of historical revisionism, but I don't think that those who buy into or wave that flag are necessarily racist. I was just making an observation about how culture shapes us. My point was simply that you're as much a product of your environment as the rest of us, and to assume that it's only the Obama supporters that "drank the kool-aid" while you yourself live in a solidly red state where your own views are fairly mainstream seems to suggest a kind of naivety about how your own views might have developed.

I think of myself as a blue dog republican. I have very liberal views on alot of things, yet I'm still a conservative.
I know very well they where I grew up and being born in the 70's helped shaped they way I view the world. but, I like to think I'm still an open minded person in most aspects.

the only ones he's kept so far was that he'd outspend paris hilton and tax the shit out of everyone while protecting his corporate interest while filling the white house with lobbyists
I'd almost be willing to agree with you, except that he hasn't taxed the shit out of anyone yet because he's too much of a pussy.
really, then why are they taking cash from paychecks to pay for obama care, that's in fact a tax, they tax people that opt out of health care, people making $200k+ now pay more in taxes, there's now a medicare tax increase, in fact obamacare is responsible for for almost 2 dozen new taxes, he's raised taxes on tobacco, taxes indoor tanning and who knows how many more... so this 'too much of a pussy' tax man has in fact raised taxes on most

Oh no I agree with you. But I think we would have even more war on our plate with johnny be good ol boy
really, with whom would we be at war? it's easy to speculate as to what the other guy may have done, I could just as easily speculate that he'd have ended the two we had and never gotten involved in france and englands conflict in libya

As usual, you're talking out your ass. Obama had the opportunity to raise taxes on those making 250k or more(as he should), but ended up caving to the Republican dipshits who claim to care about the deficit but actually only care about rich people.

Hardly. Maybe if you cared enough to question how I feel about said topic, rather then grant me such insight about myself this could be a more positive discussion.

and the reality of it all, we dont know what McCain would have done as president so speculating that he'd have done anything is moving away from that reality

joe666 said: This interesting bit of news was reported in an April 11 Washington Post Lifestyle section story about Obama's gun-control and regulatory policy wonk Steve Croley.
What a clusterfuck of heresay nonsense. I mean, not commenting on the legitamacy of strict or unstrict gun control; I'm just commenting on the "comment".

Gun control? Use both hands to steady yourself and take a breath, let it half out and hold...
