Don't block entrances, don't obstruct traffic, don't vandalise, its breaking the law. Don't bitch anymore.

Exactly. Break the law and expect to be punished whether you view it (the law) as unjust or not.

you don't think that leaving a golf-ball sized welt on a young woman's face was over-reacting a bit?

we have courts for punishment. cops are there to arrest people, not punish them. police brutality is not a form of prosecution. they overstepped their bounds and used unecessary force.

if protestors were breaking the law, they should have been arrested and charged, not beaten mercilessly.

the amount of ignorance here is just appalling.

It is true that the cops may have gone overboard. The real question how long did they give the crowd to disperse after they were ordered to?
You can't really go and arrest 500 people. If they are refusing to cooperate then appropriate action must be taken to allow the dock to be cleared.

They were blocking a dock. They were harming the livelyhood of others. I think the cops may have gone a little overboard, but that does not change the fact that these people were harming others and messing with a legitimate business.

So when a mob gets out of hand police should just issue citations?

Look I got my ass kicked by two cops once, but I was in the wrong and knew it. I forced my opinion but my actions are what got my ass kicked.

Im sure what happened is the mob of protestors got out of hand and the police did what they thought was necessary. Just as the protestors thought they were doing was necessary.

Also, protestors love this kind of stuff and use it as propaganda. Some are so radical that they invoke this upon themselves just to get it publicized.

OK fine, protesters shouldn't interfere with people going about their business but it seemed like the dock workers weren't too pleased about this either, in fact, some of THEM were shot by the cops.

It just seems like the cops lost control, panicked and started shooting indiscrimitely into a crowd of people. There was a picture of a guy who was shot twice in the back.

Cops make mistakes. not that I expect them to ever admit it...

Yes cops do make mistakes. This may have been one of them, but that does not excuse the behavior of the protestors. I think they should have the right to protest, but they don't have the right to block things. That is just wrong. If they break the law I don't think they have the right to complain (I'm not trying to justify the actions of the cops here btw).

the protestors aren't on trial here. Fine, so they're a bunch of dumb kids who broke the law so what? I would personally never go to an anti-war protest because I believe in supporting the troops and I have better things to do with my time.

I was just scrutinizing the behavior of the COPS which is the real issue here, not the protestors.

they were obstructing the operation of a business.

but the cops certainly didn't need to go in and do what they did.

they should have individually arrested people, using force when necessary to defend themselves against force or make arrests. i mean, if you strike out at an officer or resist arrest, than yes, you're going to get what's coming to you. i'm sure the cops were a little more liberal with their application of force than they should have been. i'm sure they get a kick out of beating commie pinko fag doper hippie anti-american protestors.

Oh and I think you had a little trouble understanding what I was saying, the "so what" was to indicate that the focus shouldn't be on the protestors, it should instead be on the cops, I made this pretty clear but go ahead, see what you want to see.

i was at a protest in pittsburgh, the cops ordered us to move to the sidewalk. everyone did. this one fat pig started yelling, and really getting off on his power trip. some people from the sidewalk that were still marching yelled something at him. the cop became enraged and ran over to him and grabbed him by the shirt. all the people around him didn't let him go. 3 other cops immediately came over and pepper sprayed everyone in the group. and whoever was in their hands they arrested. it was a disgusting display of police brutality. good thing it was on tape, i hope the pig gets what he deserves.

It is no question that police get out of hand sometimes. I had a friend get the absolute shit beat out of him while he was in jail by a cop. So what? it is nothing we can argue about or debate. Cops who abuse their power are not uncommon. I hate that shit. The only thing that makes me feel better about it is that I know that someday they will get what is coming to them.

Where did I say it was ok? man are you really having this much trouble with reading comprehension?

here you probably skimmed through this: "OK fine, protesters shouldn't interfere with people going about their business"

For the last time, I'm not excusing the protestors, I'm saying that the COPS' RESPONSE WAS WRONG.

cmon...cops can be power trippin assholes, protesters can be dumb too, I think the protesters probably feel frustrated cause their word never gets heard by our arrogant dumbshit for a president who never acknowledges that the world is against this war so they resort to silliness like the stunt in new york where they stopped traffic i would be pissed if i was in traffic but i understand their frustration, when our pres considers the anti war movement a focus group what an asshole, and who says we should stop prtotesting cause the war already started...WHAT? so thats it go home boys its over, no way...as much as i hate to mention veitnam but imagine if everyone up and decided oh you know what veitnam is ok cause its already started lets just hush up, no way thats not cool...I wasn't okay with this war and I'm still not. And I do support our troop,s being anti-war isn't anti troop...I don't want our boys to die for bubbaBush's agenda mmmkay?j

my point is don't make out other people to be dumb, which is what you've been doing , and I'm making a recomendation that we get past pointless bickering but maybe I need to work on my writting skills cause i thought that was pretty clear.

I completely agree with you dizzymystic, this thread has been derailed by some unfortunate flaming. I apologize to you for the any part I might have played in it.

Mush, your link?  It's causing the thread to be 14 miles wide.

Can you fix it?

Try this:  Click here.

It's that URL function feature.  Try it, you'll like it.

As far as the protestor goes I know this from years of protesting.  If you protest

peacefully no one gets hurt.  If you protest like an asshole, you will get hurt.

I feel absolutely no pity for anyone who breaks just laws OR hangs

with people that break just laws and then gets clubbed.

She should have stayed home and wrote nasty letters to Congress.

It's more effective anyway.

If you're going to make a picture funny try relating it to what is being said. For example:

BAD HIPPY!

When you said, "one hippy down, 10 million to go", it reminded me of the 6 million Jews, Communists, Gypsies, dissenters, etc. killed in the concentration camps. That's why I considered that picture to be relevant.

Oh, i was referring to the 10 million throughout the world that came out to protest the war...tongue-n-cheek, sorta

actually that is meant for all the NON-PEACEFUL protestors.

That story is printed in a hippie rag. Rather one-sided if you ask me. The story says they were unsure if a protester was hit, when the picture right next to that sentence has a caption below it saying a protester was hit. They say only the dock workers were injured. Sounds like they are trying to incite some more hatred for cops trying to do their job. Maybe they should change the name of the rag to Hypocritical News Center. They should really hire a new editor at that place.
