ID Request Please
    #14376762 - 04/30/11 10:03 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Habitat:  Found in abundance on an oak log in north central Florida.

Gills: Not attached, white to beige.

Stem: Very woody, sort of fuzzy.  Kind of reminds me of shiitake

Cap: About 3", brown when small, fades to beige.

Spore print color: Off-white or very very pale yellow.

Bruising: None noted.

Any help appreciated!

Didn't have my camera when I found them, but tomorrow I can get a pic of the group on the log.  Maybe that will help?

I agree with Twiztid, they look like Pluteus sp.  The only thing that looks off is the stem.  Spore print color would help.

for amarilla - gills look RIGHT ON
stem looks kinda off at that angle - but the color looks right too
the cracking looks typical of the amarilla annular zone
and it looks like there is a black root like rhizo at the base of the stem

lets see what we can figure out:thumbup:

Are the gills decurrent on any of the other specimens?

Definitely not a Pluteus print.  Definitely could be Amarilla though.  Hard to tell exactly.

Perhaps a Lactarius species. The concave cap, white subdecurrent gills, and white spore printpoint in that direction..

Did the gills exude milk, OP?

After reading the habitat and about the cespitose habit, Armillaria is most likely it.
