ID REQUEST - South-West Melbourne

Mushrooms were rather dried out already, as we have had several days here of sunshine with no rain.
Habitat: Found in a smallish bed of wood chips, hidden under a small tree, next to a footpath by a river.
Gills: The gill colour is brown, with most of them looking more of a darker brown. I imagine this was due to the dryness, but I can't be sure.
Stem: White, varies in thickness (in relation to size of mushroom).
Cap: Golden Brown, some are darker. Smooth. Diameter depends on size of mushroom.
Spore print colour: Purple-brown to purple black.
Bruising: Darkish blue bruising noticed on most stems. (Note: A few mushrooms had been sprayed with green paint by the council, who was spraying all the wood chip garden beds with this colour as they were cleaning them up – god knows why… The paint looks slightly like intense bruising but on closer inspection, it is quite different from said bruising.
Smell: Nice mushroom smell, nothing out of the ordinary.
Location: Picked in Melbourne, south-western suburbs.

Hah, yeah, I might give those ones a miss man! Hopefully this rain on Monday will liven things up a bit so I can get some fresher, non-painted ones! Thanks!

Yes, they are P. subaeruginosa. Definitely do not consume the ones with the unnatural pigment, it is a dye that is added to herbicides like glyphosate, glyphosate is not considered to be extremely toxic but the spray they were using could have been a cocktail of very dangerous chemicals so it's best to be safe and throw those specimens away and find a new patch with no signs of agrichemical application!

Ah, ok. Thanks a lot for that, it makes more sense now. They were probably trying to kill all the mushrooms in the wood chip 'islands'. My patch had no green chemical spray at all except for a tiny little bit that dripped onto a few of the caps but yeah, I've already chucked those ones out, just in case. More hunting then!

No, they are just spraying the weeds, the council doesn't spray mushrooms to get rid of them!
