Fruiting from the bottom of the cake.
    #14377327 - 04/30/11 12:14 PM (13 years, 21 days ago)

I am having issues with cakes fruiting primarily from the bottom of the cake. I presume this is due to highest humidity there? I need to make a much more detailed post but I'm waiting for sporocarp maturity so I can take some pictures that will hopefully be useful.

This is first attempt with a shotgun FC, it has about 544 1/8" holes, but I'm not sure of the size. I will report back with the good pictures in a day or so.

humidity generally is highest as the perlite level.

next being between the substrate and the foil its resting on.

try a big damp pile of verm on top of your cakes.

or try letting them consolidate in the jars longer.

a properly colonized substrate should EXPLODE with growth from all available sides.

could this be a case of insufficient misting?

could be. only way to tell is by the cake weight, or an experienced eye.

either way dont fret.

try misting more rather than more often.

will do. pics as soon as a mature sporocarp is ready.

currently they just look like big fat 1/3 of the way developed things.

Larry, I am glad to see that after 11 years on Shroomery you have finally decided to master the PF tek. LOL good luck!

you might want to think about what the fuck your saying because the PF tek used a ten gallon fish tank with an acrylic drip sheild. The last time I did this there wasn't even such a thing as a shotgun fruiting chamber, so excuse me if I decide to take a fucking practice run the first time out.

i think he was being sincere and not malicious <,<

but anyways if ur SGFC if built right you should have awesome results. you can fruit any tray or block-type cake-type substrate in a SGFC

monotubs r kewl too.

Sorry if I offended you. I do really wish you nothing but good luck. Pay no mind to me though. I'm just a noob. I am a little confused though. I thought most of the long term members here only worked grains and casings. What made you want to do cakes? What does it matter if they fruit from the bottom?

I think the cakes are his practice run before going to grains. I also think he left his sense of humor at home last time.

Curious, and don't rip my head off. But after 12 years you have a trade list.
I really didn't know that spores would last that long, but if so that is cool.
