I hate to admit it, but it's true for me... I'm Polish, and vodka agrees with me more than any other liquor.
I love craft beer, and I like other liquors, but none of them seem to do the trick like vodka does.
If I drink whiskey, I'm likely to puke, if I drink beer all night or rum or other liquor, I get serious hangovers... if I drink nothing but straight vodka all night.. I get a sharp fantastic buzz and barely any hangover in the morning.
Is it possible that alcohol and nationality directly correlate? Vodka, I suppose, has been running through my polish veins for many generations and my genetics prefer it. 
Anyone else? Irish guys? Your drink is whiskey isn't it?

im very much irish and was very much like you. now i have an alcohol allergy, a couple sips of a beer and im puking with a migraine for 2 days.

i think i'm of czech decent mostly, and i'm not exactly sure what else. i'm addicted to alcohol right now, and although there are times when i "love" it, i absolutely still hate it overall..

Im russian and i dont drink 
But when i did drink vodka was definitely something i liked above alot of other stuff.

I am of Czech descent and most fond of Absinthe, but I don't drink Czech Absinth, and I don't set it on fire (a modern adaptation of the old French ritual which is said to have been popularized in Eastern Europe, namely the Czech Republic).
Before I drank Absinthe, I drank mostly Kentucky bourbon and Belgian beer.

So is Absinthe as distinctly unique in its qualities as some people claim? Or is it basically just an alcohol buzz?

It's distinctly unique, but alcohol is still the active ingredient. The herbs (Grand Wormwood, Anise, Fennel, Hyssop, Melissa, etc) do have a mild psychoactive catalyst effect, but it's not like, for example, taking LSD.

Irish and mostly a beer drinker.
Can't/don't drink vodka anymore as for me it's bad news. Black out/get angry etc.
I also drink jager sometimes to make the night cheaper,not shots so much,just 100ml small bottles with an energy drink.
It's a buddies birthday tonight and there's a party/bbq tomorrow during the day. It's going to be a rough weekend.
