ID REQUEST Bruises blue over time and the stalk already had a blue tinge before bruising, looks fairly dried out, definitely not fresh, found in mulch under a bush.

Cheers

it's ALL about luck with this find i think, it was a right place right time kind of thing haha
Thanks Austrip, they were even bigger before i got to them, further into the patch there is some clusters with maybe 20 plus emerging off the one base.

Massive pictures there :P
Looks like P. subaeruginosa to me, don't take my word though. Also maybe next time you pick some don't pull all the roots up just rip the stalk near the ground and give them a little tap, it'll help future growth.

Nah not really the big bad guy around is Amanita phalloides, which looks quite different.
Were these the only two you found, if so do you know how to do a spore print?

They are Psilocybe subaeruginosa

The closest deadly look alike to subs is Galerina marginata. They have a rusty brown spore print, an annulus on the stem, and don't bruies blue (but their stems often discolour black in age).

Hi everyone, this is my first year in searching I've been checking out various places around Adelaide to see what's on the menu. Hopefully I will find something soon.
I've got a bit of noob question. Are subs found all over Adelaide when the conditions are right or are they sorta restricted to the hills?

yeah suburb ones are pretty rare. I know of one patch but it doesn't do too well. also have had a few subs in my backyard (near oakden area) from all the mycelium I've dumped there but they didnt get past pin stage.
i'd agree to stick to the hills particularly south east area (go down the highway!). and look for dense eucalypt and pine tree mulch areas. theres also northern hills area if you go on the torrens valley scenic drive and deep south area (the penninsula). IMO magic mushrooms of australia and new zealand won't help much, better to get a good field guide.

If any of you happen upon some brightly glowing luminous mushrooms on your hunts, and are willing to make a spore print that you could send, I'd love to try growing some Mycena lampadis or Mycena chlorophanos.
I haven't been able to find any source for these species in the USA.
If sending a spore print from Australia to the US would violate some export / import law, just PM me and I'll not ask, I don't want anybody running foul of the law.
Otherwise, if you come across them or know a source, I'd be happy to arrange to pay for postage / shipping.
You guys in Australia have so many cool things, I really need to scrounge enough to come visit.
Cheers, and happy hunting.
