Three people were indicted Friday in an alleged plot to mail large quantities of prescription pain pills from Florida to Kentucky.
Scotty Dewayne Highsmith, 36, and Cary Adler, 24, both of Hopkinsville, were charged with conspiracy to traffic a controlled substance in the first degree, according to a release from the Kentucky attorney general’s office.
Peter Nibert, 27, of Pasco County, Fla., was also indicted on a charge of being a persistent felony offender in the second degree. He has two previous felony convictions in Florida, according to the release.
The indictments come as Attorney General Jack Conway is increasing investigations into the illegal trafficking of prescription pills in Kentucky, much of which allegedly comes from a “pill pipeline” from Florida.
Conway has cited estimates from federal law enforcement that 60 percent of illegal pills in the state come directly from Florida. Prescription drug overdose deaths now surpass traffic deaths in Kentucky, according to Conway’s office.
White House drug czar R. Gil Kerlikowske, in a February visit to Louisville, called Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia “ground zero” for prescription drug abuse.
The indictments are the result of an ongoing investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the Pasco County Sherihttp://www.courier-journal.com/article/20110429/NEWS01/304290120/Three-charged-Florida-Kentucky-prescription-drug-investigation?odyssey=nav|headff’s Office in Florida.
The Kentucky attorney general’s office of special prosecution is handling the case in cooperation with the Christian County commonwealth’s attorney.

They should just give me all the opiates so i can get rid of them and make sure no1 else touches and harms themselves and dies from OD.
That should be my job.
