I would imagine that the poop helps in a small way, but considering that I've seen patches, both in a real life and pictures that are exploding with ovoids and area clearly nothing but wood chips or sticks, I don't think it's a requirement. Like was said above, just a coincidence of shared habitat.

Gorgeous photos lichen. Great season guys. Hope to see you all in the 2012 thread. I mean, the worlds ending that year anyway right? We better make 2012 the best season EVER. Go out with a bang.
lol

Some alien species will show up thousands of years later and open our 2012 thread like, "Shit, those monkey things picked MASS mushrooms that last year."
Way baked.

Might as well look, you can still find oysters or other good edibles.

There's usually a few ovoids around until the middle of July, takes more looking to find them.

just checked my patches in eastern PA. found a couple of water-logged ovoids that were being overtaken by green mold. But the mycelium seemed overall pretty active. I took a rhizomorph home last week that smelled deeply of psilo and was bluing, and it took very kindly to some boiled elder sticks. Today I dragged some maple and elder branches over to the exposed spots in the creek patches and even dragged some big logs over to areas that look like they could host some future mush. I'm gonna take some wood chips over, hopefully maple or elder, soon.
One question. On the same branches as the white rhizomorphs I found this dry black super-stringy stuff that has generally the same shape and was wondering if there is a more tenacious vegetative form of the rhizomorph. No pictures this time, sorry. In Stamets' book he pictures some mycelium that looks like this but I don't think he mentioned which species it was.

yep,I agree Wiscokid, sounds like honey mushrooms to me too, I find them growing in the same place sometimes, though not fruiting at the same time, the honeys are in the fall for the most part, Nycomyco, my guess would be the rhizos were from, Amillaria solidpes. keep the culture growing.

So after some warm weather in Seattle the last week or so we finally had a good amount of rain last night. Went to the ovoid patch i found a week and a half ago (my first ovoid finds and second actives find ever) and found some of the small pins augmenting nicely !!! Only got one pic today but when I go back this weekend to pick some of these beauties I will take more pics and post. Hard work pays off... Research, a few couple hour hunts and found ovoids in Seattle, fuck yah. These are potent fuckers too. 2 grams dry had me tripping balls somewhat similarily equivalent to a 3 gram dry cyan trip, and I hope to try out a 3.5 or 4 gram trip in the next week or two when I think I'm mentally prepared.. Have yielded about 2 ounces dry since stumbling across the patch. Will keep people updated but they are out there and they are amazing.

just started my own ovoid indoor grow using maple as the substrate, and using the mycelium i collected from the location where i found my ovoids this year, and a few small dried caps. i hope this works.

I'm interested to know how ovoids take to maple, due to a recent maple chip source I found. Any signs of life yet?

I think they'll do well with maple- box elder is a type of maple- plus I think someone has found it growing with maple before so I'd say it's a go!
AS for the rhizos I grabbed- they were definitely ovoid- some was even bluing! and it had the smell. The black rhizomorphs you're probably right about being armillaria sp. I'd never noticed that before- hope they don't overtake the patch! I already found some sulfur tufts growing in the same area- don't need any more competitors.

I actually noticed some black rhizos showing up in my cardboard culture. We'll monitor it and see what happens, but it's definitely a separate species from the ovoids all together, and it doesn't look like it's vigorous enough to overtake the ovoids. It actually looks slimy, so maybe it's a slime mold?

Picture of a crazy looking ovoid I took about three days ago. Didin't pick that one. Also a shot of what I found today back at the patch after some rain.
