Pan Foes?
    #14372434 - 04/29/11 12:31 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

So after all this crazy weather here in southern Middle TN, I found these guys growing nearby. I was almost certain that they were pan foes, But the spore print is jet black... Any idea? I thought that subbs were rare in grass? Here are some pics to give you some idea.

I found a bunch of mushrooms that looked just like this last summer in Idaho. Looked like foes but black spore print, teensy stems, same habitat, etc.

Anyway, I decided they must've been subbs and ate like 8 grams dry, but no effects. I'm starting to think they were a different species of Panaeolus, maybe Olivaceous?

They look like subbs or olivacues IMO, especially with the spore print. When you picked them ,did the stem change color? IF so, to what?

Thanks guys! Honestly, I didnt notice but I was busy trying to clean up my yard from all the downed branches and stuff and saw these in my neighbors yard. I will go pick one and see. How fast does the change usually occur?

Looks like Panaeolus cinctulus, at least the specimen that left that spore print.

Not more than a couple minutes. Subbs/olives often get a red bruising like

If these are subbs or olivacues growing in grass would the potency still be noticable? I have heard that subbs in grass are usually weaker IIRC...

I just hope they are potent!!! Hunting Isn't as good as it could be around here. Ive seen few cubes but only down southwest Tn and I have heard that P.caerulipes and P.ovoideocystidiata grow in the state but have yet to ever see anyone who has indeed found them :frown: So far the only active species I have witnessed myself in this state is G. aeruginosus. Hopefully this year brings better luck!!!

Potent? Sorry bro, no dice. Active? Yes. Even when I did those olivaceus, the effects did not outweigh the nausea induced by them. That also could be the fact that I ingested pesticides, but regardless they aren't going to be strong enough to work by themselves. Find 30 grams of fresh material and you'll get a trip most likely.

good luck!

if your not sure on dosages use the shroomery dosage calculator http://www.shroomery.org/6257/Magic-Mushroom-Dosage-Calculator

as potency varies between species ^_^

Guess I'll pass on that one lol...  Doesn't sound very appealing. Looks like I'll keep hunting for the caerulipes and ovoideocystidiata if they're really there  lol

I guess 5 grams isnt too bad lol Ill save it for if all else fails lol. Would it be equal to 5 grams of cubes? I think I remember reading MJ saying somewhere that they were of about equal potency dried??

5 grams of cincts is more like 2 or 2.5 grams of cubes

but as previously stated potency will always vary

I've eaten 10 grams of lawn cincts and wouldn't compare it to 3.5 of any cubes I've had.  They are a weird little fungi, usually active in the 5-6 gram range, seemingly kinder than cubes but still full of magic potential. Keep hunting man!

If you do not like the idea of eating a handful of little mushrooms to get the desired effect you can always brew it into a tea.. it may help with the nausea as well.
