Using Compost
    #1437152 - 04/07/03 08:27 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

I am about to receive my mycota pro compost from fellow member 6t. My friend has some cakes waiting for me. Im going to buy a grip of rubber maid containers. I am going to fill up each with a layer of compost, layer of crumpled cakes then thin layer of compost. I am cutting a square "window" in each container which i will then seal with layers of saran wrap and a glue gun...Should I cut another hole at the top and place a hepa filter there?? I know I don't need to worry about humidity too much because the compost takes care of that. All I need to do is watch the air exchange right?

mix that compost and spawn well
make sure you case it when it's done.
and aftrer the casing starts to colonize then start the air exchange

at least thats what kramer says

Best to rehydrate compost to just past squeeze test phase (squeeze & it just drips a few drops), mix in some verm (add some pre/soaked wheat straw chopped tiny - to increase bulk - as much as 100%), oven pasturize the blend in a roasting pan @ 175 / 185 F for at least 2 hours, 3 is better (monitor with a meat thrmometer inserted in mix, allow to cool (add moisture with spray bottle - if needed), place mix in CLEAN trays / tubs / whatever - so long as light doesnt shine through them - grate cakes w/cheese grader into mix (20% or more spawn to substrate ratio is optimal) & stir in side to side, top to bottom. Hold back about 2% spawn & frost the top with a little extra, cover trays with cling wrap, w/needle holes poked in it, cover that with loose tinfoil & incubate at 80 to 84 F. When fully colonized, case with pH balanced casing mix, reincubate until a good showing of myc hits the surface & expose to light & initiate pinning.

Wow. you are the shiznit 6t. However due to inexperience I am unsure what

"When fully colonized, case with pH balanced casing mix"

What's an example of a pH balanced casing mix? Doesn't casing just mean you lay whatever the case substance is on top of whatever you are "casing"?

Thanks alot!!!
