Cakes/Mushroom Need Air? & How many in a container?
    #1436927 - 04/07/03 05:28 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

Do cakes or mushrooms need air to survive? Personally, I had cakes which I covered and neglected that did fine, but there were only about 15 in a tupperware container. What If I had about 36 in one containter? would this become a problem?

The mushrooms need oxygen
you should really fan 3x plus per day you'll get bigger fruits this way otherwise they tend to be thin

Fresh Air Exchanges: 1 -3 per hour. (For practical purposes, fanning a terrarium 2-3 times a day is sufficient)

Why neglect them if you can get more fruit from taking proper care of them?

If you had a constant in and out air supply, would you get really good fruiting?

Me thinks it would be much harder to keep a constant rh like that.

EDIT: unless the input air had a high humidity

Yes, but you need to keep the humidity righ aswell. Some air pumps can provide a constant replenishment of air (2-3 exhanges an hour) if used with another source of humidity eg perlite.

Well what if you just ran like one case fan doing output, like a 60 mm fan, a cool mist running 24/7 and some fish tank bubblers running air into the tank from a filtered box? If it kept the RH around 80% or so, would that be good? How bout 85%? Peace.

if you are running a cool mist there should be plenty of air exchange
