mono tub question
    #14367613 - 04/28/11 03:28 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

As long as the spawn to sub ratio doesn't get above a 1:5 and the sub straight has a depth of 3" will it matter how big I go? I want to maximize the space I have and a 106 quart plastic bin fits perfect. Damion 50/50 tek makes no mention of the size restraints.I have yet to see any other write ups on the topic. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

IMO bigger is not better, quanity can override mass in certain things. thats really putting all your eggs one basket, and if it contams...bye bye. plus dunking would be a bitch. thats my take on big tubs.

I suggest you to use a higher spawn ratio, up to 1:1.
This will increase the colonization speed and lower the chance of getting contams.

yea, 1to1 is great but definatly could be used more efficiently... if everything is properly pasturized 1to4 is workin all day... you don't need a huge tub bro go with two mediums.

I don't worry too much about contamns, but it does seem more space-efficient to up the spawn ratio to increase yields of the initial flushes.

You would get more mushrooms per square foot of fruiting space.

Good Info fellas, I wanted to look before I leaped if you know what I'm saying. I think the 1:1 Idea is great for a tub that size I may just go with 2 60 Quart tubs and bite the bullet on wasted space. I'm like you Grungeman all it takes is one infection and all is lost, who wants that? A 1:1 seems excessive and expensive to me. I'l need more time to think this one out. Thanks for the input guys...

don't get me wrong higher spawn rates rule but if its not in your cards mycelium will stretch for you pretty good if you nail your moister content and use speed and precision in your sterile techniques.
