B+ colonization
    #14367112 - 04/28/11 01:58 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Going to have my first grow soon here but i have a somewhat limited budget so I'm trying to work all that out atm. When I'm colonizing my B+ do i have to the temperature around 80+ degrees, if not how low of a temperature could you colonize at and whats the fastest way to have them colonized compared to a slower/cheaper way. Also what is the ideal environment for it all to be growing in? (basic requirements so they dont die in the process or anything). I just need to know all and any mere basics so I don't fuck up in the process doing something noobish.

I have worked with B+ in particular from the start of PF tek to Coir. Room temperature is plentiful for your cubes meaning around 70-75 even a little less at times... Any higher and contamination becomes a risk. They will do just fine, simplicity pays off brother.

I had some jars colonize slowly at around 60 degrees. 70-75 is ideal.
As far as the environment, search the site for "Shotgun Fruiting Chamber." It's good and its economical.

I have B+ colonizing right now, I inoculated on 4/19/11 and sometimes my incubation chamber gets as low as 60 deg F in the night and as high as 85-90 deg F mid-day and I have not noticed any slowing in growth or any negative affects so far although these conditions are obviously not ideal, I just live in an old poorly insulated house with lots of temperature fluctuation.

Also I was reading somewhere that the colder the environment (as long as it is still habitable) the slower but stronger the mycelium will grow and the hotter the environment the faster but weaker it will grow. I have only read this and I have no hard evidence to back it up but it sounds right to me however I have no idea if humidity matters much or not.

Personally I would rather wait a little longer and have some good strong mycelium vs having weak mycelium that may have trouble defending itself from all the contaminants of life outside the jar or bag or whatever your using.

Good luck and happy growing.

Give a man a colonized substrate he grows a flush or two, Teach a man to colonize a substrate and he fills the world with fungus. (It's a good thing.)

Happy growing and good luck.
