my first brf golden teacher batch

Hello all! First post on here. I've been reading and reading on here and building my knowledge for the last week or so. I followed the pf tek method and sterilized my jars with the brf/verm. Used a layer of dry verm on the top. I waited til the jars were cool and inoculated inside a glove box. My syringes didn't have an air bubble so i had to suck in some sterile air from a flame. I sterilized the needle after every jar to be cautious. The jars have been incubating for roughly 15 hrs.
The only mistake I've made so far (as far as i know) is that i put the foil back on after inoculation and left it on for the 15 hrs they have been incubating. Not a bad mistake i think. But when i removed the foils after i realized what i had done, there was moisture on the lids of the jars that had accumulated. Just a few small drops on each. I wiped them off with a alcohol damp cloth just to be cautious about contamination.
I have three questions: 1- any adverse effects from leaving the foil on ... growth wise? 2- moisture on the lids must be from the humidity and warmth of the jars? 3- wiping the lid with alcohol ok?

1) yes 2) yes 3) don't, let it evaporate. And don't blow on it!

Wait, what? Reading PF-tek for simple minds it says the foil lid goes back on after inoculation and stays on during incubation.

you need ge and foil isnt the best if you are using pf tek then you have a verm barrier, I use rye and took the foil off and just let them sit on the shelf and no contams yet and I have 24 pints and 24 quarts about 90 percent right now.
edit:but I am a noob so maybe wait for better sources

I keep reading that gas exchange is needed so no foil

I always leave the foil on during cultivation. I have experimented with this many times. IMO it has no difference what so ever. Gases dont give a fuck about having to go up under a piece of foil. If there is no GE the mycelium will suffocate and die. If the jar is not sealed then there is gas exchange, doesnt matter how many obstacles it has to go thru. this isnt airflow like fae its completely diff. The only reason i leave em on tho is cause i like to label the strain on them so i dont have to write on the jar.
honestly its your call i dont see it making a diff. im gona start posting pics and vids the next time i cultivate

Ok since its my first go around i figure its best to ask questions and gain some insight then fudge it up.
I made another 5 jar batch today. It went a little smoother since ive done it once already now. I'll post some picks in a few days if/when some mycelium appears.

I saw a huge difference when I took the foil off my jars, and I didnt have them wraped super tight either just loose fitting and seemed to make a world of differnce, but I am just learning still a noob just something I observed.

UPDATE:
It's been 4 days since I noc'd. I looked and didn't see any growth yet. Maybe in the next day or two I will hopefully start to see something. I've been checking the temp where my jars are. It's been roughly 74 degrees. I got them up to about 81 today with a heating pad which I put on low and placed inside my already made FC. I put the jars on top of the FC which allowed heat to rise up to the jars. I covered the whole works with a blanket to trap the heat. Over the course of the day it raised to 81. I turned off the heating pad so I didn't overheat them.
I was hoping to see some myc growth. I haven't been looking at them too much, just checking temp and walking away. I feel it's the only way to keep me from buggin' about them. I'm hoping that the low to mid 70's temp is why I see no growth. But it's only been 4 days so I'm not getting impatient yet. I'm just antsy to see my babies lol
Anyone remember how anxious they were during their first try? Any stories about it to tell? Let me hear em!

Also going through it, buddy. My jars are 7 days from inoculation. Also having temperature issues here, it's about 65F in my room.
I got a cooler box for my jars yesterday and put them in with a glass of luke warm water to raise their temperature a bit. So far I still haven't seen anything.

My myc is spreading slowly. I'll post a pic later when i get home. Anyone know if that could be from crappy ms syringes?
I also see what I believe is contam in one of my jars. Ive put it aside to observe. I guss i'll know in a day or so. I'll post a pic of that later too.
Looks like this has turned into a grow log lol

The myc is slow because it's BRF/verm, and because you're heating your jars.
Room temp, 70-75, no extra heat needed. Much faster. Leave your inoc holes open and don't touch for 4 weeks.
Post that pic! If it isn't brilliant white, it's prolly bad.

That looks like either your BRF got a little too wet or it's contam'd. Either way, let it be, see what happens when the myc tries to take it over. I've had splotches like that because I inoculated a bit too much, and it grew from an ugly wet spot to thick mycelium! I swore it was fucked for like 2 weeks but all was well. This hobby has taught me patience like nothing else in my life

When problems occur trace your steps and see where the problems started. I myself have had 2 quart cakes with no problem. If I would have had a problem, I would have went back to the basic Tek, and went from there. Not bitchen at you just trying to get you to look at ur procedure. Good Luck

A few more contams
I'm down to 3 jars. I'm definitely looking to doing WBS next. I just bought a new PC, some qt. jars. Waiting for everything to arrive. I think I like the more hands on process of grains. And I like the idea of GLC.
I'll post a few more pics of my BRF. One is about 80% colonized. The other are around 60%-70%

Where the myc has grown, it has shrunk away from the sides of the jar. Looks like I might have to coax it out but I don't think it will bruise much. We'll see though. You might be right.

looked to me like the jars are wrong. The short 1/2 pint wide-mouth work best. Cakes come out easier than with the tall ones. Sorry 'bout losing all but one...keep trying. You'll get it!

I didnt have a pc when i did this. I do now. Definitely not going bulk with brf cakes lol although i have some wbs in the works.
Yea i know the short wide mouth jars are the best. Dont have them locally and it was my "test run" so i went with an easy buy. I do see how they are better.

A tip from my cake experience: Put some vermiculite on top, like 1 inch or so and moisten it to the point it's wet (no standing water). Overnight, it dries out quickly and adds to the pins. It's a great way to feed the fruits with water since they are mostly water.
