Pouring agar over spore print

Just wondering if this would work or even be feasible. If I took a spore print on a petri dish and poured agar into said dish, would there be any huge issues with it not working. I know SS poured agar over some pan spores to invoke them to grow. I'm aware the isolation would he hellish but figure I'll try it unless someone says otherwise.

I want to know the answer to this as well.
Seems like if it will work for one species, it may work for another.

i think the answer is no
not sure. curious about it as well
im pretty sure tho, that you can "suffocate" spores
ive sandwiched trichoderma, and lipstick mold btwn two halves of agar and they stalled
as if frozen in time...time being two layers of agar in this case

I'm thinking the spores can rise with the agar as well if it's broken up. I'll be trying this soon for sure! Just gotta get me a liquor bottle to do agar in and get a spore print into a dish! Will keep this updated for sure.
Edit: I'll try with 2 prints at different temperature agar (by feel), one at comfortable holding temp. The other at "clumpy-ish".

isolation would be hell, and the monocaryots would have a more difficult time finding each other, but in the case of REALLY old spores, I could see it, as a thin layer of agar over the top would eventually rehydrate the overly dried spores, try it and if you do post some pics please, I want to see the resulting jungle

main concern which comes in mind would be burning said spores with molten agar. also you'd be effectively sealing them off any gas including air, which is normally what it takes to successfully germinate them on agar (that's why the grow on top of it and don't dig in it).

I didn't consider them being embedded in the hot agar. I'll scrape half the print prior to pouring for sure and I'm gonna pour from the side rather than directly over. Just gotta finish my bottle of brandy and I'll be good to go!

You only want a tiny amount of spores so the chances of bacteria and mold spores joining the party are reduced. I wouldn't pour hot agar over a sporeprint. Just pour clean dishes and transfer a tiny amount of spores with a loop right to the agar later. RR

I've tried hydrating spores and dripping them onto agar and smears and I've had 0 luck (although luck isn't what is needed). I've gone with less nutrient agar, less agar, a couple drops of sterile water (in jars w/agar) and still notta. If anything it'll be more of a "I have an extra print let's see what happens" type deal. It's gonna be a super thin layer in hopes it cools quickly and doesn't burst many spores.

Poured the agar and nothing yet. The good news is however that my agar is CLEAN!!! I may scrape the again that's over the print in order to move it to the top and see if the spores survived the pour.

I've got growth! Bacterial, and mold, but only in small colonies, which sadly, is great for me!! I also have some white fluffy right over a print, but we'll see what it turns out to be. I scraped half the print with an inoculation loop, but I don't think they broke free enough. The one that's showing growth has maybe 1mm of agar over it (orange agar is clear in this spot). I poured it hot (burnt my hand after two dishes) but if the spores can survive that temp then they did! Will update when I determine if it's green or myc, got my fingers crossed I get to grow shiitake from ms and work on isolating!
Didn't mess with them after the pour, but the thin one seems to be working. This would also be my first spore germination on agar.
