making grow bags

So I did some searching on here and found some info on making grow bag out of Ziploc bags. That's not really what I'm thinking of so here's my idea. Oven bags, or roast bags are made for high temperatures, so they shouldn't melt in a PC right? I'm thinking if I cut a 2x2 inch hole and rtv tyvek on both sides of the hole, one piece inside and one out, that will allow for ge and one big glob of rtv for an injection port. I've been reading a lot on grow bags and had a friend say he uses nothing but, however I find that I can generally do things myself and get much more out of it. I just want some feedback on my idea. Suggestions on how to make it better. Will it even work? Thanks in advance.

For most hobbyists, jars work great and bags really aren't needed. I mean, go ahead and make them if you want. But buy a dozen quart jars too.

You can do it that way and spend $4 or more per bag on an inferior and thin product which will tear easily, or buy mushroom spawn bags for less than 50 cents each, with the cost about half that price if you'll buy a whole box. RR

Yeah I have bought like 4 dozen half pint and a dozen quart jars and plan on KIS for the most part. I have been reading about bulk grows a lot though and figured I would try my hand at it. I plan on making some compost like agar's, filling a bag with it, and spawning it with rye. I just think making my own bags will be more rewardging. So you think oven bags will work? Is the GE hole big enough?
But Roger, I really like spending extra money! I will look into buying them. Where do you buy yours? I honestly don't see how it costs more as oven bags are cheap tyvek is free from the PO and i have rtv laying around.

Oven bags are less than half the thickness of spawn bags and often tear when shaking. Post office tyvek is poorly suited and lets a lot of contaminants get through, and RTV often peels off plastic when the plastic is massaged to shake the mycelium. Suit yourself though. It was the only way we had to do it 20 years ago. RR

Alright, that was convincing enough. I like DIY projects but if its just not worth it its not worth it. Thanks a lot Roger. I love your DVD btw.
