Help please! Dying salvia cuttings - again.

I never managed to have a salvia cutting survive. These guys (got from local sponsor Avalon) are no exception. They arrived in airtight plastic capsules as very healthy looking cuttings rooted in agar. Then I transplanted them into high quality soil, well moist but not wet. Iput them under a humidity tent - actually a propagator I use to raise seedlings - and they are wilting and sure look like they want to die. I spray them almost daily, I gave them fungicide, I did anything I could think of.
What am I doing wrong? Is there anything I can do?

pot is way too big which keep too much moisture. You should use a smaller pot with high drainage but moisture keeper potting mix and put a humidity tent on it.

Yeah I've gotten better results watering my Sally every 4-7 days and it's no more than spraying the soil, I'll spray the plant every 2-3 days as well.

At the end of last year I got two cuttings rooted in agar about a month a part. Although only one survived, the other wilted and died on a surprisingly sunny December day when sat on the windowsill, it's doing reasonable well. I put mine into much smaller pots than your's and only last week repotted the one which survived. I had a few close calls with it but I think the main issues were the cutting is smaller than what many people start off with and secondly, & most important, I learnt from reading threads on here that the biggest mistake people make is over-caring for their plants. Since learning that I took a much more relaxed approach and didn't panic every time a leaf fell off or it looked like it was starting to wilt etc. I also found during January - March it was fine sitting in sun resulting in a nice growth spurt and only recently had to move it to the shade again since the edges of the leaves started to blacken. I find throwing in some perlite and vermiculite into the soil mix along with and a few stones at the bottom of the pot helps prevent over watering as well.

A little clonex certainly wouldn't hurt.

The pot looks bigger than it actually is - it's like 3 inches across. It's the plants that's small... or "was" should I say. I think it's dead now. What really pisses me up is all the sites telling you Sally is an easy plant to grow. Easy my ass.

I think the reason most websites claim its easy to grow is most people from what I've seen get cuttings that are about the size of what mine is now and I've had it for around 6 months! When I originally got my two cuttings, one had two leaves around 1cm long each and the second one leaf 1cm long and two beginning to sprout. The first died within two months and I nearly lost the other about five or six times - any new growth curled up, blackened and died. From xmas onwards though I kept it in a heated propagator which keeps a steady temp / humidity and its done a lot better. Only recently took it out the propagator after repotting and its done fine now the average temp in the house stays roughly the same.

I was keeping mine in a heated propagator too. It didn't help much though.

Could of been the heat that killed them but those cuttings you got were too small and I blame the vendor for shipping poor quality stock. Too much work for an inexperienced grower to do to get them into shape.
I never commented as I thought it was a lost cause from the start, sorry to say that but... You should try and get well rooted cuttings that are at least 6 inches tall. This gives you some room for error. I know you live in an obscure part of the globe but if you are successful in finding some you will succeed as I know you can grow plants.
Salvia isn't hard to grow, I don't think so anyway, but when vendors ship tiny rooted clones in agar they're just setting you up for failure IMO.

I see. Thanks for telling me it wasn't entirely my fault
I'm not giving up on Sally yet. Next time I'm trying to locate larger plants or rooted cuttings.

There's an occasional plant on the market place, and you can view it. I got mine from sco0bydo0
