I know how a healthy colonized wbs jar smells, but should I feel a difference if there is a bacterial infection?

Not necessarily. Why take chances? Why half-ass things?
Wouldn't it be nice to succeed at growing mushrooms?

I'm sure it works for you- but the BEST advice with wbs is to soak, simmer, strain. It gives the best results.

idk man i think its alot harder to get the moisture right if you soak it, cause most of the grains are millet which hydraates really easily:2cents:

It feels awful to half-ass to be honest. But I will have to take a chance at some option which would possibly take me a step forward. Time is the enemy to me at this point. I promised myself to move to AGAR after my second grow.  :undecided:

You wouldnt even need to do a gtg you could do a myc strand growing to the lid to grain lol.

If you feel froggy jump! That is if you feel like PCing grain and doing a xfer then the only negative that could come from it is that it doesn't work. If it was a type of mush that I didn't have any more of I would definitely GTG it to two or three new grain jars to give myself better odds on it working and getting to keep the strain without ordering more spores.

Agreed, you don't know. It's not hard to prep grain correctly.
Leaving out steps because you are too inattentive to do the job well isn't a tek.
It's just lazy, and not in a helpful way.

Again, I'm sure your grain prep works. There's lots and lots of ways to prep grain.
But you will get the BEST results with a three step soak, simmer strain.

I personally think RP's problem is the inoculant- but good grain helps you track that down.

Oh, and don't try to simmer by time, that's not ideal- simmer just until the grain is cooked al dente.

Start with LC, then move to agar. Because it feels so good to fail first.

It's just his way of expressing love

I'm going to shoot half of the jars by Grain LC tek and the other half with my LC. I can't abondon them, yet. I'm sure some of you would like to see if I failed again with my 14 jars of wbs cooking one by one 90 min or not, so I'm going update this thread soon :peace:

Doc:
Where do you see "suspicious " in these jars?  First time with WBS. myself and they look perfect to me.

Thank you very much, enigma. Look, this is my 3 months old wild bird seed jar. Does it seem healthy? There are some weird spots, but it seems like a thick mycelium to me though.

I think I will need to tranfer some grain from that jar to another jar in a glovebox and with a spoon.. cos that particular jar is too full and mycelium is too thick in my opinion. Do you agree?

I will start with the process right away when I get 1 reply regarding this matter :dancer:

lol i wish i would have looked at these they are starting to pin invitro that is all nothing to worry about no bacteria

By the way, I have silicon self-healing injection holes.

.. and it worked really well doing Grain LC tek. All 12 jars got nice growth inside, 100% success rate.

Now I'm going to make 3 monotubs.

I guess my biggest mistake previous time (when all the jars failed to get growth) was:
1) I soaked for too long
2) I pressure cooked for only 60 minutes with my little pressure cooker which probably didn't reach 15 psi

So don't repeat my mistakes is the best thing I can say.

Few days more and they're good. Here was my update.
