A mind without any external input.
    #14363520 - 04/27/11 08:51 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Suppose there is a human baby born, it has no concept of the external world. It cannot feel, see, hear, touch, taste. It is just the mind itself. What makes up a consciousness is the input and feedback we receive from out senses, without it, are we still something?

That's fuckin deep bro, good thought.  I believe there would still be conciosness however not in any concept as we percieve conciousness.

I was hoping for maybe some scientific explanation for this. If there is a blockade to the external world, parts of the brain would have no use.

nothing exists in a void. this is like asking if a tree falls and no one hears it did it really fall?

that's a tricky one, I have no scientific explanation to give you and I think that it would probably difficult for you to have it since there's probably no related case studied of someone born without the ability of perceiving anything at all.

You're basically exemplifying a baby born a vegetable, and if you have no means of awareness you probably won't be able of being aware of things.
That's basically like someone in a coma who lost all their memory, ability to hear and feel

It wouldn't have any memories to think with, so the mind would be empty, and thus, nonexistent.

this might better be thought of as a person in a coma -
are they conscious? how do we know?

but still there is a problem with the baby -

this is an interesting theory, but really, are memories necessary for consciousness? or do they just play a huge role in human consciousness? When you experience a moment, are you just experiencing your memory of it? or are you experiencing a moment that includes a memory of the past?

seriously its hard to describe and i get mixed results between me and my girlfriend. I guess its your ability to adjust and zone out and not move around that affects where your mind takes u. But once your off, its a psychedelic trip.

My gf started hearing music in her head and seeing colors and patterns and stuff. I guess the brain really wants to give u give u stimulation wen you dont have any. Wat i experienced was physiological detachment. I didnt feel anything at all. My body was like in a mediated state, only the mind that is on dwelling deeper and deeper into each thought. But i guess the deeper you go the more you see stuff.

i think Joe Rogan describes it best for sensory deprivation.
