light becomes distorted because of gravity but not to the point where its unreliable to use to look at galaxies far away.

You're probably right, but thinking that you know that you're right is very egotistical. We are pretty unintelligent at this point, but with the exponential growth we are seeing and have seen in our technologies and specifically computing technology (artificial intelligence), I think we will have a much better understanding of our capabilities and place in the universe in the coming decades and centuries.
I really don't think that we are having anything close to "exponential growth" in technology. If we are, then it's being hidden from us. Cures for cancer, hoverboards, flying cars, alternatives to fossil fuels...yeah, no....not anytime soon, either. We seem to have slowed to a crawl IMO. Of course, what do I know...I just want a damn hoverboard already.

dude look how far we have come in 3 centuries. 300 years is nothing.. literally nothing if looked at in reference to the age of the universe. We might be just taking baby steps, but the Law of Accelerated returns regarding technology is 100% true IMO.
i mean dude.. we put a man on the fucking moon. go outside, right now, and look at the moon. How the fuck did we do that? Seriously that is insane shit right there, we are in a time of mythic proportions compared to where we have been at.

Space travel's some crazy shit. I wish Obama wouldn't halt Nasa's work
THe internet's gotten fucking crazy too. I'd compare it to having electronic drugs at our disposal. You can do fucking anything with technology.

What he said. I swear there have been loads of thread recently saying that we're totally insignificant. Life is the MOST significant thing to ever happen to our universe, I believe. It's like, despite how beautiful the universe is, our accomplishments are far greater. Yeah, nebulae are beautiful, but look at the fuckin INTERNET! A CD player! A PENCIL! Mankind have done some incredible things. Look at how incredibly complex our brains our, they are the magnum opus of this universe. Doesn't get any more significant than that.

Life isn't the most significant thing to ever happen to our universe, its the most significant thing to ever happen for us. So is the internet, cd players or pencils. We are not significant to the universe or existence, we are only significant to ourselves. The universe isn't a conscious being that may give a damn about our existence compared to any other thing, we are equals to an atom and there is no point on trying to convince ourselves to any other thing.

So what greater achievement has occured within this universe? So we are equal to atoms are we? Do atoms think? Do atoms experience emotions? Life is the universe made conscious. What I believe to be the pinnacle of existence. Just because life is transitory, that doesn't lessen it's wonder and greatness.

bro is it just me or has anyone been quoting this lately?
he doesnt say we are insignificant, he means our problems are insignificant. us humans are very fragile and sometime delusional but we are very significant, just not in the Bible sense
the next 3 paragraphs after that are the best, im at page 315 in that book. soo amazing
Which book would that be?
