What is wrong with my loph?

I bought this guy about a month and a half ago. He has been getting indirect sunlight on a window ledge. I have watered him twice since I got him. About six days ago he popped up a flower bud and began to flower about 4 days ago. His flower was opened up completely until two days ago. It has been cloudy and storming for two days. Is it possible that he closed his flower because of the low light?
What really worries me is that I have noticed a discolorization that has been spreading from the bottom ridge.
What do you guys think it is?

Ieponumos, thank you for the nice video. Do you know what causes the flower to open and close?
Sorry, I do not have a better resolution camera. Here is a pictue with another loph to show the contrast. My flowering one looks kind of like it has some rot around the bottom. Should I be worried?

Overstand if you look at your photos the stuff in the background is clear and in focus. So if you dont have a macro setting on your camera take the photo from further away may be double the distance you took the last ones. Then load the photos onto your computer and crop the image down to the size you need. Hopefully the image will then be clear enough to be able to see whats going on.
Cheers Got

low light cause them to close their flower such as sunset. I believe probably they r evolve to close their flower for storm to prevent rain damages.

The discolouration could just be corking which happens to Lophs in cultivation or from insect attack like spider mites. Look into those Two avenues and get back to us with what you think.
If it's rot it will be very soft and squishy
I find that the flowers open and close depending on how much light it's getting. They're closed in the morning, open in the mid afternoon when the sun is high in the sky and then close again in the afternoon. The flowers often only last for a day sometimes up to Three. Cooler temps prolong the life of the flower I find.

If it doesn't feel like a rotting banana, you're fine. Seriously, don't worry too much over it or you may do more damage than good. Just

I now have a new worry. Just today I noticed two cracks in my troubled loph. I read in another thread that cracking is caused by too much water. Is that correct? I have watered this guy twice in the month and a half that I have had him. I read somewhere that some people water their lophs once a week in summer. How often do the experienced loph growers around here water their cacti?
Any insight into this discoloration? It does not apear to be very squishy.

Something's wrong with your camera man. Are you using a cellphone to take pics?
If you're usuing a camera then just hold the shutter button down half-way so the lens can focus then push it all the way down to take the pic.
Sorry, but so many people post pictures and most times it's like, "Is that a plant or a bus?"

All I have is a cell phone camera. I turned my flat bed scanner on its side and got this image. I can clearly see the troubling area in this pic. Notice the section that goes from green to yellow then brown. Is this something that I should be worried about?

Is the skin actually split or is it just like a wrinkle? Pics are hard to see the detail in, that's why I ask.

The skin is actually split in 2 small places. I drew a 1 and a 2 next to the spots in this picture.

Im not very good at peyote, but if the skin is splitting I would say it is excess water, or food or both.
And Im not sure why the brown scab part of your roots seems to be going up onto the button, mine dont do that. But your loph looks allot better than my mutants anyday sooo.

^This is also my understanding of why it happens.
I have no first hand experience with splitting lophs yet. Had a graft begin to show signs of doing so but it wasn't watered and it sorted itself out. What's your soil like, Rich in nutrients? and is it high in peat?

soil is a mix of commercial cactus soil, perlite and a little sand
