Australia & Europe Chooses Meth & Ecstasy over Cocaine

A STUDY of the state's sewage showe that South Australians binge on ecstasy and speed on weekends.
Scientists tested sewage in Adelaide and 10 regional centres for the stimulants ecstasy (MDMA), speed (methamphetamine) and cocaine. They compared the results to similar studies from Europe.
Methamphetamine was the drug of choice in the city, while country people preferred ecstasy. Cocaine was last on the list everywhere.
Study lead author University of Adelaide pharmacology Professor Rod Irvine said the results generally confirmed what was known from surveys, police, customs and emergency departments, but there were a few surprises.
"The surprising thing was that our data tended to show there is as much, if not more ecstasy used in regional centres as in the city," Professor Irvine said.

"It's just as popular out in the country as it is here."
Ecstasy use doubled in regional centres such as Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Whyalla and Port Augusta, compared with the city.
And there were big differences in the patterns of consumption in Adelaide compared with cities in Europe. People in Adelaide used 10 times as much ecstasy and 30 times as much speed, but much less cocaine.
Ecstasy use in the city was five times higher on the weekend and speed use was up by 30 per cent.
Forensic Science SA tested the samples.
Director Professor Ross Vining says the research is a logical extension of work to assess the longevity of pharmaceuticals such as the oral contraceptive pill.
"We flush the toilet and think that's the end of it," Prof Vining said.
"But these things flow through (the sewage system) ... There is the potential there for government trying to work out their programs on education, particularly in trying to warn the health system of what kinds of drugs are out there, what might be coming into the emergency departments.
"There's a lot of potential uses for having something that gives a measure of what drugs are currently being abused in the community."
He said the next step was to develop a biomarker to determine how many humans contribute to the flow, rather than having to estimate the population served by each sewage plant. Herald Son

Piss in the garden. Problem solved.
The reason for this "phaenomenon" or trend is that both E and meff can be cooked in any basement anywhere in the world while good coke is often difficult to come by and very expensive because it's hard to smuggle into Europe and Australia due to anal customs and long transportation routes. Now if you Yanks would stop snorting up all the good blow maybe it would be more readily available and popular here.
