Shitake 75???

Anyone know why these cultures are so expensive? I found a vendor that was cheap as hell for a slant, but everywhere else I look they cost out the wazooo. Also anyone here experienced growing them? (Or Nameko for that matter.) And are either of them safe to grow on mulch?
Any help will be much appreciated.

At the top of the page, you'll find a 'search posts' button. You can type in 75 and get all the threads on it over the last few years. It's an excellent and popular strain. RR

Yes sir, I did that and that isn't really my main issue. I need to know one vendor charges like a mazillion dollars, and another vendor I found charged me a whopping 10 bucks for the same, and the differentiating factors between them.
I suppose since my culture is here now Ill start a grow log and find out for myself but still thanks for a response

Nobody can legally sell Shiitake 75 but Aloha Medicinals. Anyone else is selling a bootleg copy and can get their ass sued off. RR

I also wanted to add. Aloha has put a lot of time into isolating there strains. This can take months to years to find good strains. Also, other companies might say it is shiitake 75 but may not be aloha strain shiitake 75. All of aloha's culture are guaranteed for life. Even if you are at fault for loosing the strain. If people don't buy the strains companies like aloha will stop selling strains to the public and we will loose quality strains.
The main problem I have with paying so much for the culture is not knowing if it is what I want. I hate to pay 250 for each strain not knowing which one I will use. Wish there was a try before you buy, but that isn't possible.
I bought the shiitake 75 and will probably buy other strains as well if I can get the money.

I have nearly two dozen commercial shiitake strains including most aloha ones. Search Posts on some of the strain names for test grows I've done and posted here, such as ZA, 75, A-10, 720, CS-2, CS-3 and a few others. I've found the market in the US prefers larger fruits, so I've done best in my farm with Shiitake 75 and A-10, both of which are aloha strains. RR

Ya, I also know you are doing further testing and were going to post when done. I got the shiitake 75 for the reasons you listed. I think my next strain will be a-10, cs2, or cs3. RR why didn't you have good results with the cs2/3 strains? Also, what is your personal favorite to eat? I'm growing on sawdust blocks currently but plan on doing some logs. I'm not sure if i will be selling any or not.

The CS strain was a poor fruiter on sawdust blocks, so I suspect it may be a good log strain. I had excellent results with CS-2 and CS-3 They make smaller, but more numerous and very tasty fruits. However, a point to remember until the US population gets 'educated' on Shiitake, they prefer the large fruits that look like portobello mushrooms.
I like the large ones like A-10 and 75 for grilling, but smaller fruits like 720, CS-2 and CS-3 are better when skillet sauteed.
Many strains that are excellent on sawdust will perform poorly on logs and vise versa. RR
