Got Corked?

Want your input, I am looking for a method to test my LCs.
What are the chances of this working.
1. Taking 4-5 wine corks 2. Slicing them in 1/2 3. Boiling them in water for 10-15 minutes, to remove any sugars or unnecessary nutrients. 4. Place the partially dry cork halves in a quart jar, with a filter and inoculation port. 5. PC for 30 Minutes which should be enough time to sterilize. 6. Remove, cool, and inoculate.
In theory the cork wood has very little nutrients to provide (limiting chances for contaminants), but the LC should be sufficient for the mycelium to spread. If this works it should allow us to test the LC for any visible contaminants, and also provide a transferable cork halve to the awaiting prepared grains.
Makes sense or just crazy

Why not?
Could you soak one of those grow block sponge things from the hydroponics store in nute rich water of some type, like water with brf dissolved in it and colonize it?

Yeah. And not many things grow on bark. Especially cork bark. We have been using the stuff for like 10,000 years. Because it doesn't get moldy. And cubes don't grow on wood anyway.
If you're going to stay up all night tweaking, you should spend some time reading and not just just rambling.

Dont' know who that was intended for, but really?
This is an interesting article.

Mushrooms don't grow on bark, I just need a medium to test the LC. Thanks for taking the time to read the whole post, although I may be rambling!

I appreciate the advise, any other insulting/condescending comments are not merited. You try to justify that what you say was helping, I question your poorly given intentions. Please feel free to disregard my posts, and comments.
Has anyone ever used Hydroton? It is a small Expanded Clay Pellet with many perforations (lots of surface area) commonly used for hydroponics.

It's just the internet, so please refrain from being so emotional.
I see people use hydroton instead of perlite pretty often but not in the manner your are proposing.

You could always make one of these to test the LC on.
Seriously though, just make a 1/2 pint BRF cake, make the mix a little dry and then you can shoot 4-5 cc in it with no moisture trouble and it will fully colonize in 7-10 days if you distribute the LC evenly as you can throughout the whole cake. Or there is a tek for growing on just brf and water like a petri dish if you search for it.

Treat people with respect sounds about right to me.
I noticed some of the mycelium crawling over the hydroton whenever I would put my cakes directly over the hydroton.

3n1gm4 I agreed that was going to be my alternative. I just thought it would be great to use the test as a transfer medium.

Don't put cakes on hydroton, thats what extra jar lids and squares of aluminum foil are for.
For testing an LC you aren't going to get much faster than a half full jar of rye berries. You can shoot LC all over the top and down the sides and then shake it to distribute and you will see growth in a day or two if it isn't too wet. My rye jars noced with LCs are 100% in a week usually. And if it is contam free you can shake it and add sterile water when it is 100% and make enough contam free GLC to noc up every horse apple in the pasture.JMHO

Yeah, good point about the GLC. Gives me something to do with the left over bit of birdseed.
