BRF Cakes - Pin/Fruit Timeline Variance- PICS * 1
    #14355017 - 04/26/11 12:32 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hello everyone (first post!), and thank you all for the information that's gotten me this far on my first grow. I'm hoping a few people will take a look at my pics and provide some advice:

This is an Amazonian strain that was inoculated in 12 BRF cakes. 4 were lost to contams, and the remaining 8 were birthed after 4 weeks incubating @ 83. I dunked em for 24 hours, rolled em in dry verm, and placed em in my fruiting chamber April 17th. Didn't see pins for a week--first sighting was just two days ago, and then WHAM these two cakes (pictured above) just exploded. The rest, however, have very few pins:

except this one, which started at the same time as the other two but hasn't grown as rapidly:

My FC is set up as a tub-in-tub, with a blue florescent light inside the inner tub. An airpump connects to a bubble wand that wraps around the floor of the inner tub beneath a 2inch layer of damp perlite to provide constant fresh air. (That being said, I still fan/mist a couple times a day because I can't help but to dote on them). The cakes sit on foil, and the temperature ranges from 74 degrees at night to 82 during the day (light produces extra heat--12on/12off). Humidity is a consistent 100%

It appears that it's time to harvest two of the cakes (or at least some of the mushrooms from them), but I'm concerned about having only one FC and multiple different fruiting cycles for my cakes. What do you think I should do?

    (a) Pick the mushrooms with veil torn and leave all cakes in there to continue pinning/fruiting, THEN dunk and roll all for second flush once the others have also finished.

    (b) Pick all of the mushrooms from the cakes with veils torn, dunk just those 2, and place them back in the fruiting chamber.

    (c) Pick all mushrooms/aborts and dunk all the cakes again (I do think the others will eventually pin without a dunk...)

    (d) Leave it be entirely (could be problematic as I will be out of town Thursday night-Monday morning)

Thanks for your thoughts!

option C.

Also look into building a shotgun fruiting chamber, to set it side by side that one and compare results. Or not, but what you have sounds to me like a PMP which the average user here I don't think has much experience with.

You really think I need to re-dunk the others, even though they've only been in the FC for 9 days?

Partial Harvest after 9 days... re-dunk&roll or let the others catch up? [Re: SLAP]

Update: I harvested the bigger fruits and obvious aborts from the first two cakes shown above, leaving many smaller pins and placed them back in the FC.

Any other opinions about whether to re-dunk and roll all 8 cakes only nine/ten days after initial birth??

give them 2 full weeks, if no pins and cakes are loosing moisture, then dunk. Otherwise, just keep in FC if they are staying hydrated.

Make a SGFC, looks like they need more FAE.  http://www.mushroomvideos.com/Terrarium-Tek

And buy a 6500k/daylight CFL light bulb and get it as close to them as possible without heating the FC too much. I use a 15Watt 6500k CFL inside a jar in the lid of the terrarium and it barely raises the temp a degree just at the top.

I was wondering if that may have something to do with it... is there something specific about my pictures that signals a lack of FAE to you? Just trying to learn the signs-thanks.

Some of the stypes(stems) look long and skinny, I have read that skinny stypes is a sign of not enough FAE. Not for sure I am just pretty sure I read it on a post.

I put a computer fan on mine for 5-10 minutes at a time against a hole drawing fresh air in all the other holes 3-5 times a day. I usually just monitor the RH at sub level and take the fan off when the humidity starts to drop. Beats the hell out of hand fanning except after misting.
