Salvia in a fish tank?
    #14349024 - 04/25/11 01:21 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I've seen tropical house plants grown with their roots inside an active fish tank with the foliage above the water.
Has anyone tried this with a salvia? Do you think it's possible?

I would think the Salvia would suffocate, its a plant that likes it's aeration.
They traditionally need good drainage/sandy soil.

Now, don't quote me here, but it would occur to me that the tropical plants that can grow underwater (Root-wise) would be naturally adapted to that in the wild.
I can't really see how they would get enough oxygen otherwise.

Maybe we'll get some senior members in here to let us know what they think.

I wouldn't say it's impossible and I can see it working if the fish don't eat too much of the roots and you supply oxygen with a pump and airstone, at least for a little while anyway.

You should try it out and report back.

OK, I put one cutting in the tank... will report later on how it does.
