intermittent, unipolar swollen lymph node?
    #14359207 - 04/27/11 01:18 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

The lymph node on the right side of my jaw occasionally becomes swollen when I take my first bite of salty foods.

It's accompanied by a very noticeable, almost painful sensation, and subsides rapidly.

:wtf: Should I be worried?

Ive had this, its weird.

do they like tingle so much that its painful? kind of stings?
only happened once or twice while outside in mosquito country sipping beer.

I guess it could be attributed to a small infection of some sort,
or the cigarette i smoked that day because i don't usually smoke. nasty stuff

I had the wisdom teeth on my bottom jaw removed a year ago so that may be involved somehow.

But no, I wouldn't even describe it as a tingling sensation, it's just an intense "awareness" of the lymph node, and it gets so swollen I can see it in the mirror.

I just find it strange because it's only been doing it this way for a month or so.

I mean, I know swollen nodes are not a big deal in most circumstances, but this phenomenon is remarkable in how intense the sensation and in how rapidly it subsides; and also in how consistently it happens only when taking my first bite of food.

Just seems odd is all. I was curious.

Sounds more like a blocked or inflamed salivary gland.
Your first bite of food stimulates your salivary glands to produce more saliva. If the saliva can't get out of the gland it could swell up, possibly painfully.
That's my 2p anyway.

I have had a spot of gingivitis lately, so that might be the cause.

I freaked out and (gasp) started flossing when I first noticed a bit of blood when I spat out my toothbaste, and then took it a step further by regularly rinsing with peroxide. It seems to be on the mend. I got a lot of blood when I first started flossing and my teeth felt all funny and disjointed without all the plaque buildup. But as of now there's much less bleeding and also I get why flossing is important.
