I didn't watch the video, but I heard he announced today that he formed a committee to run in 2012.
Hopefully for our sake he fucking wins and gets rid of that cunt Obama.

Really? So he officially announced he's running? I heard him speak a few months ago and honestly I couldn't agree more with everything he says.
-------------------- Did he dream about dragons? Did he dream about deer? Did he whisper he names of friends who were near? What songs did they play, and how far away? Why did he whisper, why did she scream? What does the sound of a screen door mean? Who talks on the hill? Who goes to the cellar, can you feel the chill? Where does the river, when will the wind? How far are the mountains? Where do they end? Why would the church? Did the service begin? Tell me who died, and tell me who cried. Help me hide in the skin of a deer, my zippered-up bag in the mouth of a stag so swiftly I go through rows of does, it flows, it flows, it flows, it flows all over the hill where the green grass grows.

Paul is a Republican, but even so he doesn't have a chance. There's no way he'll be nominated.

If he's actually on the ballot, I'll actually vote.
And no, he didn't run independent, he was in the Republican primaries, but didn't get any support from his party. He was actually the most popular candidate on the internet by 100x or more, but as someone else stated, when the multimedia political extravaganza started rolling, he lost a lot of momentum.
It was funny though, I saw a graph that showed Ron Paul's internet traffic compared to his TV coverage. He had the most internet traffic by leaps and bounds, and had like 2% of the TV coverage for all the candidates.
Last election, he was the only person (Rep or Dem) that I was willing to vote for, as he's the only real American running. The rest were all clearly political puppets. Of course, most people told me that Obama was going to be a real American and bring some hope and change, but we all see how that went. Oh, it changed alright, the government just got more fascist...

Ron Paul is an anti-establishment candidate trying to get nominated by a party that's known for being huge on establishment. You do the math.

There actually is some difference in the internal operations of the two parties - for example, the GOP is more of an "old boy's club" where you have to be with them for a long time and have a long history of accomplishments (for the GOP) under your belt before you can get nominated.
Somebody like Obama, a charismatic newcomer, would never be nominated by the GOP.
Ron Paul's son Rand might have some luck a decade or two down the line, though - if only because he's reasonably photogenic and has his dad for advice.

Yeah he probably won't get the nomination. Somebody mentally retarded like Sarah Paalin will end up getting it. But I'll still hope for a miracle.
Gary Johnson would be a decent alternative for Paul, he is at least pro weed legalization. Not that it should be the top priority for a choice in president, but he seems like a decent guy.

I tend to think the only thing they can really agree upon is that they'll screw us over, and the combined weight of their political will completely eradicates opposition.

he really needs to get picked up by republicans or democrats and not seem like a joke. We're really a red/blue country, and we need to have more of a spectrum, but until then if he ran for either republican or democratic, I would vote that party.

It's really hard to say at this point. None of the candidates actually look too good, but it's not even within the capability of the GOP's hierarchy to nominate upstarts, so upstarts are right out.
Backwards-ass party, I must say, though I'm anything but a hardline Democrat.
The only advantage to this structure is that there's no chance of clowns like Palin and Trump stealing the public's hearts overnight. But that's only because the public doesn't get to vote on it...

See, I consider myself pretty libertarian in my outlook, but I do think the government has its place. It should just stay the fuck out of our lives unless it wants to consensually help us with something, and preserving natural splendor for free enjoyment by the public clearly falls within those boundaries.

So you don't think he believes any of his goals? I don't think they make him particularly popular among the mass voters... but its difficult not to be disenchanted with every politician that comes which way so skepticism is plenty healthy... and yeah he can't do most of what he wants in the position of president..

What's your point dude? Why should it be the government's job to decide what a private business does? If they want to hire nothing but black people, nothing but asian people, only whites or fucking purple people they should be allowed to do as they please. They shouldn't have the right to regulate that, period, regardless of a bunch of crybabies feelings.

The president's power is very limited. It's by far the most prestigious position in the US government, but do you think he's the king or something? He's checked by the power of congress, any decisions considered "radical" by the legislature (very conservative body that, and totally in the pocket of huge multinational corporations and Israel) can be vetoed and the president impeached.

Naw I was agreeing with you, he can't do most of the things he wants to as president. I do believe he is genuine in his word though.

I think we're pretty far off in America from losing our child labor standards as well as a clean food supply. However, affirmative action and reverse racism is pretty realistic.

These powers should belong to a particular state that you choose to reside in IMO. So should most of the other stuff.
We really don't need the massive amount of people sitting in the white house on thier butts deciding for us anymore. We have the internet and so much information at our fingertips that we can make educated decision and decide for ourselves on matters that appeal.
If you don't like what your state is becomming then you can move to a state that is more to your liking.
Why should the same rules apply to everywhere, when everyone is as unique as are many communities and ideals of the communities.
You guys act like it would make a huge difference when really the Free Enterprise and your State would pick up most of these programs. The power would be right at your doorstep to decide.
And it is, for everyone!
I hope that people spread awareness of Dr. Paul so that Freedom will once again become a reality.

What if you're unable to move to another state? It's not quite as black and white as you guys make it out to be. And seriously, free enterprise is a good thing, yes, but it isn't the answer to all our problems. You want total freedom, go to Somalia. That's the Libertarian's wet dream.

Total deregulation, total privatization of all government services, putting the dollar on a total gold gold standard. He's does have some good ideas like smaller government and eliminating the drug war, but I feel a lot of ideas are totally out there. But I would like to see somebody right in the middle of the political spectrum, someone with balls enough to cut all government programs AND raise taxes (including eliminating the tax cuts and loophole so favored by many) to get us out of this mountain of debt and restore confidence in treasury notes and the dollar. I dunno if such a person exists, though.

I think that any of these sort of candidates would face stiff opposition in congress for thier radical views.
If you think about it, they would basically be fighting for their jobs.

it'd give me some hope about this country if someone who wanted to end the war on drugs got close to presidency.

You wouldn't think people would.. but with enough money, media, and positive framing even the most pathetic politicians can be made to be accepted by a pretty big chunk of people (idiots)... sarah palin is the epitome of proof when it comes to that.

He's just attention seeking. In fact the other night I saw a piece on him and how many of his properties went into bankruptcy, with lots of people loosing all the money they invested in condos and apartments they bought in buildings that he owned.

It's a shame he's so old. I believe he'll never be president in his lifetime.
Now Rand, barring any incredible fuck ups, might be a legitimate candidate way down the road.
