he really needs to get picked up by republicans or democrats and not seem like a joke. We're really a red/blue country, and we need to have more of a spectrum, but until then if he ran for either republican or democratic, I would vote that party.

Somebody like Obama, a charismatic newcomer, would never be nominated by the GOP.
Ron Paul's son Rand might have some luck a decade or two down the line, though - if only because he's reasonably photogenic and has his dad for advice.
Oh, like Sarah Palin or Donald Trump...yeah.
There really is no difference.

Good point. I don't even really expect either of them to run.
So who will get the nod do you think?

Yes. Maybe he can get rid of those pesky child labor laws so we can put kids to work at menial jobs and we can compete better with China and India. And who needs those business stifling health and food regulations anyway?

That's what they said about Obama.
So what happens if Ron Paul gets elected and he turns out to be a giant turd, just like every other president in recent history?

It's really hard to say at this point. None of the candidates actually look too good, but it's not even within the capability of the GOP's hierarchy to nominate upstarts, so upstarts are right out.
Backwards-ass party, I must say, though I'm anything but a hardline Democrat.
The only advantage to this structure is that there's no chance of clowns like Palin and Trump stealing the public's hearts overnight. But that's only because the public doesn't get to vote on it...

He seems far too genuine for that if you ask me
Throughout his entire career, everything he's done and said (that I've witnessed) hes stuck to his guns.

Rand Paul is Ron's son.
I don't find your comment appropriate for this thread.

Yeah he is, and Rand Paul recently defended a bill stripping down restrictions on people who want to have racist hiring policies.

at least he actually comments with sincerity and reason on topics that most politicians won't touch, or beat around the busy about.

We've got a Libertarian in the state senate here in Tennessee that wants to get rid of all the state parks.

I'm telling you guys, Paul only says those things because he can get away with it with his particular electorate, not because he'd actually do anything about it (or even be able to do anything about it) as president.

See, I consider myself pretty libertarian in my outlook, but I do think the government has its place. It should just stay the fuck out of our lives unless it wants to consensually help us with something, and preserving natural splendor for free enjoyment by the public clearly falls within those boundaries.

So you don't think he believes any of his goals? I don't think they make him particularly popular among the mass voters... but its difficult not to be disenchanted with every politician that comes which way so skepticism is plenty healthy... and yeah he can't do most of what he wants in the position of president..
