i have had a bunch of jars get trich recently. I think i kno the reason why but i just wanna make sure i rule out every other factor so... When using bigger jars, is it necessary to cook them longer???

I just go with 90 minutes for all sizes. Be sure to cook (PC) them again before throwing out the bad grain/seed.

If by bigger you mean 1 quart or larger they should be cooked at 17 psi for 2.5 hours no exceptions. Some may say 15 psi for 1.5-2 hours but by my experience that is not iron clad. Hope that helps.

If you're using big jars, are you sure the problems not coming from your FAE?

far to little details.
but if sterilisation has been done properly, then mold contamination is always a result of poor sterile inoculatioin or contaminated spore syringe.
check your pressure cooker, what psi is it rated at. And no you dont turn up your cooker to raise pressure. its designed to work at a specific psi. turning up will just allow more steam to escape which will boil your pc dry very quickly.
what are you working with, substrate, size of jars.
are you using a glovebox, your flame sterilising your needle before each jar. wiping your lids with alcohol wipes before injecting. yoiur wearing gloves>?

Just go 2 hours then if possible. And as stated above double check your equipment and sterile procedures. No need to crank up the heat while using a rocker. You can only achieve 15 psi. You can reach 17 psi by using a petcock vale in place of the jigger. Most sterilizes come pre equipped with these. I don't suggest modifying a PC at all. There are other factors then sterilization of the substrate that could be effecting your progress.

im new to grains but have done pints and half pints for awhile. i always do 60 minutes for jars and 30 min for LC and everything else (tools, water, etc.)...have yet to get a contam (knock on wood).
ide check your filtering and inoculation technique before blaming PCing, thats usually the last reason for contams.
i know people really would rather be safe than sorry by PCing longer than necessary but remember too long will screw with your moisture content and require more water in your PC (beware of burning your subs).

yeah i really dont think it was the pc i just wanted to rule it out for sure cause this was my first time using the bigger jars. they are the bigger than qt ones. I got em given to me off a friend and they were prob just chilling in his basement for years. i shoulda washed em out first but there were so many i just dumped the dirt(literally some jars had dirt) out and wiped em with a dry cloth. i thought pcing them would be enough. On top of this i used wbs that has been sitting out side on my front porch for months with the bag wide open.
Im gona get new wbs and clean all them jars with rubbing alc. And then im gona continue pcing them for just an hr. i think i should be good.
