ID request with thanks
    #14356971 - 04/26/11 06:38 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

This one is new to me, so I thought I'd throw up an ID request for it. As always, all help is appreciated.

Anyone know of a way to tell if a cap cuticle is filamentous or cellular without using a scope?

spore print: light to dark brown in heavy deposit

habitat: suburban mixed pine

cap: drying out

stem/gills: adnate to adnexed

I could be way off, but I want to call it a Cortinarius. Did it appear terrestrial or did it seem to be growing from wood or debris? Any youg specimens?

I would think it should be fairly obvious. You should be able to find examples on Mushroomexpert or elsewhere. Or post some pics here and someone will help.

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.

You can call it whatever you want but I am not going to agree.
