It was a nice foggy morning today. I followed a small stream up a hillside with my <3. No mosquitos yet! Im very interested in knowing more about the red shelf mushrooms.

Your red conk appears to be Ganoderma oregonense.

The one after that might be some old Piptoporus betulinus?

I'm guessing the yellow thing on the log may be Tremella mesenterica.

Thanks for the ID's everyone!
Why not clone some of the Trametes versicolor and the Ganoderma for fun?
I wonder how they might do on pasteurized substrates?

Actually, the Southeastern United States (Georgia in particular) has one of the most diverse endemic urodelan populations in the world. Only Eastern Asia has a comparable number if I recall correctly.

You can find Trametes versicolor year round and its common - Ganoderma tsugea will be good sized in 3-4 weeks and it is also common. You can dry them out and store them for the year.
You could grow them on straw or woodchips/sawdust. The Trametes like hardwood and the Ganoderma like hemlock.

huh? I read something interesting about how much "invisible" wildlife originates from vernal pools. It was a staggering figure. More LBs than mammals and birds combined.
